I thought we could share some books on entrepreneurialism, give opinions and reviews. I've just finished reading Duncan Bannatyne's 'Anyone Can Do It' autobiography. Ill give a review for it and perhaps we can update this thread every so often with more reviews?

"Anyone Can Do It" - Duncan Bannatyne
Very inspiring read, duncan tells about his life as a child with the navy. When at age 30 he decided he wanted to become a millionaire after reading a newspaper article then 5 years later he accomplished it. Some excellent tips and tactics also
4/5 - the writing was slightly poor

I read it a while back, he used to sell ice creams, what a dude.

Yeah, from ice cream vans, to nursing homes, then to casinos/pubs/gyms and hotels.........the boy done good.

Well, I read golden apples by Bill Cullen there over xmas.
It's just ok, not an essential read at all......but it does give insight to all the trials and tribulations we all experience as solo business people. He talks about the "darkest hour" we all have and worries etc.

I took great solstice from that book after reading that like myself, Duncan had a nasty little sh*t working in his ice-cream business pocketing cash!

    Great idea Dead Dude,

I'm a massive reader of business books. So here's just four that spring to mind i might add more as the topic progresses.

May favorite book of the decade is Tim Ferris - The 4 Hour Work Week. If you haven't read it do, it could change your life.

E-Myth by Michael Gerber, talks through the set up and problems of an entrepreneur.

Dale Carnegie's how to win friends and influence people. Written in 1931 and still relevant today, very insightful comments on human dynamic.

Who moved my Cheese - Spensor Johnson. Explains that what was working yesterday doesn't necessarily work today. Change and moving on is part of the experience of life - don't get left behind and don't fear it.

80/20 principle by Richard Koch is worth a skim. Written along the same lines of the four hour work week, Ie. Do more by doing less.

Chilly theres a load of free stuff from most of the gurus in the form of free e letters and some free e books but all necessitate you signing up and then recieving product updates and sale pitches etc. Theres plenty of video stuff either on youtube or google video from seth godin, brian tracy, derek gehl etc.

    @chillywilly

For Audio Books I'd say your better off going with Audible.co.uk its about 17/18 Euro a month and for that you get two free credits (ie books).

Pretty much sums it up. I enjoyed the book very much, especially the part where he was bidding for a hotel and he was up against a local business man who he did not like, obviously got it as well :) .

As ive just finished this book I noticed Duncan has another out called " wake up and change your life" Ive ordered from play and cannot wait to read it, apparently this is more tips and advice than anyone can do it,which was more focusing on his life, but you learn alot reading it.

I think the guy is a legend and has a great attitude towards life in general, would love to meet the man and talk with him, maybe some day ;)

    Post removed, thanks Axwell...

As you've mentioned one of the Dragons OP, i have to comment on Peter Jones' book... useless, is the word that springs to mind. I was disappointed as he was someone i admired.
It really came off as just a few hundred pages of bragging, no entrepreneurial value whatsoever as far as i could see...

Just on peters book which I'm reading at the moment, I am starting to get the same opinion as you, every fecking has 10 steps or 10 golden fecking rules.

I still admire peter greatly, but one of his talents is CLEARLY not writing books ;)

Yeah read the boko and wasn't overly impressed but didn't think it was that bad in fairness I was more impressed by him as he built it up lost it all then built it up again and that takes a bit of backbone.

    Since this was bumped...

Not exactly entrepreneurial, but The Fish Philosophy's a great read about how the sort of culuture that can make an normal business great.

Warren Buffet's "The Snowball" is a cracking read. Very long, but very worthwhile.

I've a list of books I want to read, and a lot of them have been mentioned again here which is encouraging!

    Hi Chilly,

I have an audio book called the Marketer's Manifesto, by Anne Sieg. It's very inspiring if you're interested in Internet marketing and the meteoric rise of one incredibly intelligent woman.

Pm me or contact me at my normal email.
My normal email address is at my blog.

If you have any to swap then great.

    Kev

Would any entrepeneurial/business types be interested in the Personal MBA?

I'm slowly working my way through a few of them, but as it's casual reading I don't always get all the way through or I don't take notes (just reading them like a novel).

Anyone ever thought of doing this - or actually done it?

Do you see any value in it?
