I have a specialized sirrus, with a comp frame but with all the other parts from the most basic model. I need a new cassette and chain, I cycle a lot, and over the past year and 4 months I have managed to wear them down to the point that the chain has started to slip. I want to fit the parts myself, my question is would a "Shimano HG70 6/7/8 Speed Chain", be a suitable replacment part for my chain, a "KMC Z-51, 8-speed"? I am thinking of buying the Shimano HG40 8 Spd Cassette and the chain from CycleSuperStore.ie, are these guys any good?

The spech for the bike are here:

Yeah that chain will work fine, as will the cassette. You may also want to look at chainreactioncycles.com or wiggle.co.uk for the chain and cassette, could be cheaper. Free delivery on both sites

Thanks, checked out chainreactioncycles.com but they only have the HG50 cassette in stock, I take it this is just an upgrade, will it fit?

Also on a separate note, are brake pads a standard size? They aren't any specific brand on the bike, but they look like cartridge ones as the slide in and out. Looks like the basic Shimano v brake as well, even thought the are are no markings. Look above for spec. It just says "standardpads".

The 8 speed hg50 looks fine yeah.

Watch out for the 11-32 one out of stock though, CRC can take a long time to get stuff back into stock. The 11-30 one will work fine as well though.

For v brakes you either get cartridge pads, or non-cartridge. If you have the cartridge ones, then any shimano compatible inserts should work.
