When driving on a 3 lane motorway, let's say coming out of dublin on the way to limerick, should you be in the middle lane or the inside lane if there if nothing on your inside.....the reason I ask is i'm confused by the amount of drivers who sit in the middle lane when the inside one is free.....

The middle lane is for overtaking.
It is not for driving in unless the inside lane is busy with slower moving traffic.

you shouldn't in the middle lane if the inside lane is empty beside you, unless you would have to weave in and out every 10-15 seconds to over take slower moving traffic.

Outside lane(s) should be used for overtaking. The reason people sit in the middle lane is the same reason people sit in the outside lane when not overtaking.. They see it as the 'fast' lane, and why on earth should they drive in the 'slow' lane!??

Also, a lot of people just don't know how to drive on motorways.
