The odds are he would turn up if The Wrestler is still hot. If the movie isn't in cinemas at the time they probably wouldn't bring him to WM25

If he wins the Oscar itll get a renewed cinema run though and they're on in late Feb, Mania is early April so its only 6 weeks or so later so chances are he will turn up, funny how Vince changed his mind once it started getting rave reviews and press eh?

Well on the rumours about Mickey Rourke vs Jericho at Mania...

Jericho on Raw at the moment having a pop at Rourke and his comments made on the red carpet a couple of days ago :pac:

Read into it what you will...

Apparently they were on Larry King last night (accourding to www.411mania.com/wrestling )
    Promote WrestleMania match...

Chris Jericho and Mickey Rourke both appeared on Larry King Live last night and promoted WrestleMania. Rourke talked about how great it was to be accepted by the wrestling community while filming The Wrestler, specifically mentioning Ric Flair. Jericho came on via satellite and complimented Rourke for his performance of "the minor leagues" but said that WWE is totally different.

Jericho went on to say that Rourke shouldn't have called him out at the SAG Awards and that just because Rourke played a wrestler doesn't mean he is one and that his story would end badly if he got in the ring. Rourke admitted that he probably shouldn't have said what he said and that wrestling is Jericho's world, but added that he could take Jericho in boxing match or a fist fight. Jericho said he may get what he wishes for. Rourke said he respects Jericho but Jericho said he has no respect for Rourke. Jericho warned Rourke that he doesn't know what the wrestling world is really like.

Considering how well the Mayweather / Big Show fight went last year I have high hopes for Jericho / Rourke. While I wouldn't expect an iron man tech fest, I can imagine they'll string together a decent enough match.

Jericho has really put himself into this role seemingly. fair play to him. Wrestling fans will know he is 'in character' when he says things like this - but the general public, the target of all this, probably won't - they'll just see him as a disrespectful arrogant arse. Could get Jericho a lot of exposure.

Hopefully they don't screw it up like I think they did Show/Mayweather (mayweather was more a heel in that than he should have been imo)

Mayweather's personality isn't particularly liked in boxing anyway, so it made sense.

    From the Associated Press:

Mickey Rourke won't rumble with WWE superstar

HOUSTON (AP) — A spokeswoman for actor Mickey Rourke says he won't be taking his role as a professional wrestler into a real-life ring after all.

Paula Woods told The Associated Press on Wednesday night that Rourke will not wrestle WWE superstar Chris Jericho at Wrestlemania 25 in April at Houston's Reliant Stadium.

Woods wrote in an e-mail that the Oscar-nominated actor "will not be participating in Wrestlemania. He is focusing entirely on his acting career."

Rourke portrays professional wrestler Randy the Ram in the acclaimed movie "The Wrestler." He made a surprise announcement about the wrestling event Sunday night on the red carpet before the Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles.

Rourke had said he was going to toss Jericho "around the ring like tossed salad."

    Mmmmm

    hmmmm...

so he'll be there as a 'guest of the company'.

the article mentions his spokesperson's denial that he'll participate too.

tbh, i'm leaning towards believing he will just attend.

Indeed, to which Rourke will no doubt make a comment on and so the angle continues.

I doubt WWE would bother going through the things they have if he wasn't going to be appearing in the ring.

The Wrestling Observer is reporting that at this point the working plan for Mickey Rourke at Wrestlemania 25 will see the actor appearing in the corner of whoever Jericho faces at the PPV. Because Rourke is a former boxer, creative has an idea to push that ability of Rourke's and have him interfere in the finish of the Jericho match possibly hitting him with a knockout style punch that Jericho could sell as devastating. At this point there is no confirmed opponent for Jericho, however Jerry Lawler's name has come up a few times in creative meetings as he fits the legend persona and has been vocally "against" Y2J's attacks of other legends on Raw. Lawler is 56 years old and has never worked a match at Wrestlemania, so now may be the last chance the veteran has to wrestle on the big show.

So seems like its back on for him to be there

The Observer last week said that the creative team have no idea whether he'll be doing anything at the show or not and they don't know where the Jericho thing is headed, but that Vince apparently does but he won't tell anyone

The Observer never said that Lawler's name has come up in creative meetings, Meltzer just reported Lawler as a rumour that has been heard

    More wrestlezone misinformation.
    What a f*cking surprise

I kinda liked the The Wrestler was made without involvement from Vince and Co.
I liked that it's being applauded , it's a good film, I liked that the none of that applause has gone to Vince and Co.

It's a bit rubbish now that they're leeching on to Rourke and the success of the film to add "star powah" to Mania.

It's gotten to the stage with Jericho now that if it's anyone but Austin or Hogan, I'll be very let down. It needs a huge name to end such a good storyline. Not a commentator

I can't see it being anybody but Austin. Perhaps he will appear tonight on Raw and get this going proper! Only 5 more shows so they better get down to business!

I really doubt that he is, unfortunately

The best thing about the whole Rourke at Wrestlemania thing is how WWE took sly shots at the film before it started getting major mainstream coverage. Anything for a bit of cash :pac:
