Best value up north

    Hi all,

Can anyone recommend dealers up north who will take a ROI trade in and give you a price for the car you are buying from them INCLUSIVE of VRT? I'd like to pay the northern dealer a fixed price and let them take care of the VRT. Is that even possible?

Also, what dealers would people recommend for big family 4x4's? Im going to be doing a lot of UK and Europe driving the next 3 years with the family in tow and would like a high spec, auto diesel Discovery, X5, ML or similar. Budget is €25,000 all in including trade in and VRT. My trade in will probably only get me €3,000-€4,000 in realistic terms.

If I bring in a 2006 or 2007 car from the north will it be subject to the new car tax regime or will the old structure apply to it as it's a car dating to before the new car tax kicked in?

    Thanks

    Ben

Can only advise on the tax, but if it was first regd before the new system came in, your vrt percentage is decided from emissions, no matter the reg date but the tax is done on cc if it was first reg before the system came in and on emissions thereafter

VRT rate is Co2 based no matter what the year of the vehicle,
2008 onwards vehicles - motor tax is Co2 based,
Pre 2008 vehicles - motor tax is engine size based,

You will really need to ring a few dealers to find out if they will take your car as a trade-in. I have heard that some will and then sell them back down south again. Most will also do the VRT paperwork for you too though it is not complicated to be honest.
