    on the homepage...
Members may have noticed that the current SIMI website has been operating at a basic level due to a virus attack. We are taking the opportunity to rebuild the site which we expect to be fully operational in the first quarter of 2009.

No it's not down, it always looks that messy. A virus attack, more like a stupidity attack...

"Membership of the Society requires companies to operate to high standards of business ethics and integrity. Motorists should look for the SIMI logo as a symbol of reassurance"

Brilliant. I'm going to my car from one of these guys for sure

What the hell is a 'virus attack' supposed to mean?

  • Moderators, Politics Moderators Posts: 41,226 Mod ✭✭✭✭Seth Brundle

Some sites are effectively hacked and some code placed into the pages that is automatically run when users look at a page.
These often try to download another virus or run some code on the users machine.

It probably means their web designer left and they can't find anyone who'll actually work for them so they're screwed... although I hear the chick that goes around to visit the garages is sensationally hot! they should put her in the ad!

Sorry Kbannon, I should have added an eye rolling smiley. If the server hosting your site gets hacked or is infected with a virus you migrate the site to another server if you can, take the infected one off line and clean it up - you don't leave your site up running at a 'basic level'. That makes no sense. The same goes for a compromised server. Viruses don't 'attack' websites and make some things just not work. Sounds much more likely that they have some fault or error server side and are making things up. Are they incapable of being honest about anything?

Those Citroen boys seem to be in the news constantly with this.

I can just imagine the French Dudes from Monty Python and the Holy Grail laughing over the wall at all the stupid paddies who bought a Citroen at a stupid price.,...

Thank christ i got outta Citroen when i did!

That's old news. It still dates back to the Citroen price fixing investigations - if my memory serves me well - nearly two years ago. Mr Duffy is up for sentencing for what he's done, that's all.

Pitiful fine but would be the same if sweet shops were fixing the price of chocolate bars. Laws in this country almost encourage such "white collar crimes".

You would have thought they could afford decent internet security, no sympathy from me.

    Every other company does.

In fairness, much of the security is the responsibility of the host.
