I've heard of cars being setup differently for roadsurfaces, but thought its usually the UK + IRL being different to the rest of Europe.

Regardless of that tho', it seems like another hairbrained scaremongering tactic to try and scare off UK importers.

Its a bit of a mental ad TBH. I havent heard anything liek this from Toyota Ireland yet. Hopefully we are getting a demo of one next week for a few days so i'll ask then.

Even if it is true, that's a shocking ad.

I sent this link and message body to Toyota Ireland dealer network contact centre because Im that disgusted by it.

Im sure there are people who might believe this but frankly the people who go to the UK to buy cars generally know about cars and the process involved and would not be conned by this information.

I've looked at the Toyota.ie site, and cant find any mention of this.

    This dealer must be suicidal.

Is this only on the new model or is it on the old model too?

It may be true, it may not be...but boy does that stink of desperation:rolleyes:

I can see that ad being pulled fairly lively if Toyota get wind of it:D

EDIT: I'm not sure if this is true of other models/older Avensiseses but it's definitely true of the new model.

I've heard this before too TBH.

It's still scare tactics by the dealer & I doubt the standard Euro suspension would that big a drawback After all, all the other manufacturers don't need 'Irish-spec' suspension

I know that Merc do on the Sprinter Vans - tried to order the uprated suspension only to be told that Standard Irish suspension is the rest of Europe's option heavy duty suspension.

Lets get this right. If I live in Wales and buy a new Avensis and then move over here after 6 months and my suspension goes a bit "wonky". Will I be then told sorry you should have changed your suspension settings because Toyota Ireland believe our roads are ****.

Tough sh*t, take it up with the Toyota.

    This is difficult to believe.

I dunno, if it is true it is news to me so fair play to them for attempting to let people know. Got us talking, no? Kind of depressing though that manufacturers have to do this to allow for our crap roads. Now we just need a warning that if you buy any Avensis in the first place that you need your head examined.

If I were Toyota UK then I would be quite upset at these remarks.

What do we say so about Toyota NI? They are Toyota UK. What type of suspension do they set their cars up for?

If i were Toyota in the UK i dont think i'd be that bothered.

The figure of imported new shape Avensis' will be a very small fish in a big pond to them.

I'd be interested to hear if there is any truth in that ad tho.

There is. If a mod wants to PM me I can confirm how I know. I don't know the details of the warranty impact but I'm almost certain there will be problems with Toyota Ireland covering warranty work on a non-Ireland spec suspension.

But doesn't EU regulations state that the manufacturer's warranty must be honored throughout the EU once the vehicle was originally sold there?

If this is true then I'd still rather save a few thousand euro on a UK spec car and take the chance of having to pay out of my own pocket for a potential suspension issue.

Can i ask were you shocked at this because you think that this is untrue, or that is underhanded??.

If you think this is untrue you are wrong. Each Avensis that comes into Ireland from Toyota Ireland Has a factory fitted adapted suspension. Its called a "Rough Road Pack"This involves a stiffer damper(shock) Thicker coils in the spring. Adapted Wishbones, and other components. The Irish model actually rides a whole 10mm higher than a uk model.

If anybody wants any more info PM me

They set them up using the bog of Allen as a testing ground. A friend of mine had his picture taken with some Toyota bods out there about 5 years ago.

It the message that it puts across which annoys me. The dealer took it upon themselves to put out a message in a manner which is not good practice.

The car is not even on general release in Ireland nor is it in the dealerships. People have not even been given a chance to drive the car and other dealers have not been given the chance to demo the car or test it themselves yet this dealership has decided to "warn" people on buying a car in the UK.

The dealer has clearly taken an action in the name of Toyota to put across a message not sanctioned by Toyota.

The car is in dealerships and on general realease. I was looking at one over in Linders on Friday. I also saw two lorry loads of them this morning on Green Tiger Lorries.

A few moments ago I had a good conversation with a representative from Toyota head office whom led me through the ins and outs of the rough road package.

This representative has been on boards.ie watching this thread unfold(hello Toyota Representative ;) )

The message is very clear that the vehicles have a rough road pack installed on Irish spec models.

It is also very clear Toyota may/will be speaking to the dealership regarding their notification to consumers.

Thank you to Toyota for responding so quickly. :)

Not in all dealerships. So the fact it is not in all means that it is not on General release. I was in the dealership today in Limerick and was told they are not getting them until tomorrow.

EDIT I just pulled into the showroom car park and the guys were parking one up in the showroom and the valeters were polishing the tyre walls. Better late than never. I am in Killarney tomorrow. I might take a look at one if they have one.

If you buy a toyota in the uk and bring it to Ireland yes it is covered by warrent, that's if the car was made for the european market, if the last letter of the model no is a W. The W mean's it's made for the europe market. If you have a problem with the car , you bring it to a Toyota dealer here, they then check the car for your problem, take the vehicle's details and send them to Toyota Ireland, they then check with the uk to verify the car's details, if everything checks out, ie chassie no and mileage aint been altered, they will go ahead with the repairs. The paper work takes around 2-3 days.

dont know much about warranty issues, but i have heard that most toyotas arent made in japan anymore. the only models that they make there now are the land cruiser and hiace, all other models are outsourced to various factories across europe all making different aspects of the car, which could account for the different suspensions, but on top of this their reliability has come into question as the same quality standards arent present in each factory, and as a result ive heard of quite a few problems coming up, esp in computer elements and them being unable to fix them as its unclear which factory the fault originated in.

on an aside, in the same convo as i was lookin over a new ka, opened the bonnet, big fiat engine staring back at me, seemingly they've contracts for providing engines for various small cars to diff manufacturers.

Is this the end of reliable new cars?

Information can be a dangerous thing. :D

Toyota have factories in the UK, France, Turkey and the Czech Republic because it is cheaper to manufacture volume sellers there for the European market than ship them half ways around the world. Car manufacturers like most other manufactures of products produce them all over the world for this reason. VW, Ford and others have factories all over the world too.

Regarding the Fiat engine in the Ka, yes alot of car makers are sharing technology, platforms and engines with each other to share costs, its the natural progression of things. This has been going on since the mid 1980s

Put it this way to you if you buy a Sony PS3 do you really think it is made in a Sony factory in Japan?

I know for a fact that the car has been in Limerick (5 of them) in the main dealer for 10 days...there are 3 on display.

Fiat 500/Panda and the new Ka are basically re-skinned versions of each other. Just because it has a FIAT engine doesn't mean its unreliable. FIAT's are actually quite reliable these days.

Fewer and fewer cars these days are not a product of engine/platform sharing

Basically the dealer informing everyone that Irish models have a rough road package fitted where as the UK models dont and that this may affect suspension related warranty claims on UK cars in the future. Bit pathetic tbh
