    Hi guy's,

I'm getting married abroad in June and am going to Dublin to have a look at dresses this weekend. I don't want a traditional 'big' wedding dress as i think it will be too hot and awkward but would rather a short dress-like a prom dress or a 50's style vintage dress, but i do want white. Anybody got any ideas about where i should start looking? I have a feeling bridal shops are not the answer!

How about Jenny Vander in the George's Street arcade (or wherever they've moved to)

Edited to add: I just saw this on the Debenham's site:

    That dress is lovely.

I bought my dress in Debenhams as well. Simple stapless prom dress style with a little jacket/bolero. It was when I put the jacket on that it looked very 50's. Mine wasn't white though, was creamish colour with heavy embossed cream flowers on it.

Debenhams is great value for a dress you will wear for one day and never ever again.....!

    Hello Lea2000
A friend used delias.com to buy her dress which, though new had a very vintage look to it.

I'm getting married abroad too and ended up getting my dress in debenhams. Was gorgeous. Only thing is that sometimes they don't have any of a particular size in their central UK warehouse where they are ordered in from. Think they've got in some new styles recently too.

Monsoon can have some gorgeous pieces. Think monsoon.co.uk deliver to ireland too if they can't order one in to the shop (often the have a fair amount of makeup on the dress in the shop)

Hi everyone and thanks so much for all the replies!

Snoopy, those two sites are what i had been looking at previously and would have loved except candy anthony are too over my budget and i was afraind to order from dolly coture incase i didn't like them on! But i looooooooooooooove the dresses!

However, i went shopping in Dublin just to get an idea of what was out there and within 2 hours had bought a dress completely different to anything i had expected to try, let alone buy! It's from Bt's although it isn't a wedding dress it's pretty wedding-y! Pale cream silk, floaty, halter-neck and about calf length! Kind of grecian and not 50's at all! Those 50's one's with the big tulle skirts didn't suit me at all as i'm very short and they made me look massive! Just goes to show it pays to try on different styles!

Anyway, i love my dress so thanks to you all and happy shopping!
