Corkage Trick?

    Hey,

Getting married in June in a Dublin hotel. Basically they originally wanted €25/bottle corkage for wine which is silly really. Their own wine list started above €30 for pissy enough stuff. They were very reluctant to come down in price but eventually got them down to €20/bottle (still too high I know).

Had a thought though - in the contract the corkage is defined as €20/bottle but the size of the bottle is not specified. I believe a magnum is a bottle, albeit a big one ;)

What do you think? Cheat the hotel by supplying magnums at the risk of pissing them off?

i think its implied that its for a normal bottle - the hotel will most likely and rightly charge you more for it

why stop there? If you're going to push it then go all the way. Get a Nebuchadnezzar and remember to keep a straight face as you hand it to the manager - possibly need a forklift to do so but I have seen them in French restaurants.

(If you're wondering about what it is see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wine_bottle#Sizes)

€20 seems way too much for corkage. I know a lot of people get this down to €4-6 when they bargain closer to the date (within 3 months when hotels are unlikely to be able to fill the date)
