A do-over!!

A hypothetical question. You somehow get the ability to have a total do-over of your life, right from the very beginning, kind of like a reincarnation. Would you do it?

You'd lose all memory of the life you lead right now, and start over afresh. new family, new prospects, new everything.

Might not seem that attractive but think of it as an opportunity to change everything about you. Those little things you do that you don't even like doing. The way you act but can't change it because its just the way you are. You're uncontrollable lack of sympathy, or over emotional state. The way you sometimes get too clingy.

A new life could change all of these things. Would you take it?

You learn from your mistakes, so if you lose all memory of current life, who is to say that this new wonderful life wont be exactly the same or worse...

For me, it'd be a no...

Statistically, you would most likely be born into poverty and spend your short and futile life flicking flies off your swollen stomach.

So no, I'll stick with my fly-less self, in Ireland, during the credit crunch, with my belly swollen from eating too much not too little :p

...think of it as an opportunity to change everything about you.

But if I lose all memory of the life I lead, how will I know what I should change etc?

Answering your question, would I like to start at day 1 again with a random selection of circumstances? No.

Were I not married with kids, I would consider it (maybe, but then, history does tend to repeat itself), however right now, it would be a no.

Nah - I know full well that if I was to start with a clean slate and no previous knowledge of my past decisions i'd most likely make all the same mistakes and decisions all over again.

Provided of course as another poster pointed out I wasnt reborn as a Trocaire poster child.

No, losing memory is no good because in this hypothetical situation you need that to know what you would change. Besides it your surroundings that is the main factor in how your personality takes shape so the fact that you would have different family etc would all mould you into a different person anyway, given you are not starting a new life being the person you once were.

Now I wouldn't mind being able to go back and knowing what I know about my life be able to change certain things or events in my life, but then again that's why we only have one chance to see what happens so no point wondering.

Nah, I like my life. If I had a chance to do it again I would at least expect to retain some memory so as not to make the same mistakes.

"Mother buy some stock in Microsoft"

If I was goin to lose all memory of my current life, no. I have more important things to do with my time than make all my mistakes again.

Although if i were to have learned from my mistakes and gone back and rectified them, I probably still wouldn't change all that much.

This might explain my OP a bit better.I was reading through some sites there a while back and one of them was a suicide website that promotes suicide, self harm, etc etc, all the things that seem to popular in American teen culture at the moment, Anyways one of them was promoting suicide under the pretence that reincarnation exists and if you don't like this life you can simply commit suicide and come back agian as someone else, probably someone happier. Now obviously this is a load of sh!t as there is no way to prove reincarnation but anyways if it was true would ya still want to do it. Me personally I'd say no because being a young child in the 80's was much better than being a young child today. Julep's post in another thread kind of rammed that point home for me.

Then it wouldn't be your life anymore, no re-incarnation or nothing...it would be completely different!!

If you lose ALL memory of your previous life, then who is to say that you won't make the same mistakes, and go through similar periods of happy times, and sh*tty times??

I would do it again, but only once i reached old age, and still retained some memory of my previous life...so i could be sure certain personality traits and bad decisions could be avoided for the next life.
