Side Effects of the Pill - help

    Hi guys,

I have been a guinea pig to the pill for over 2 years now.
I didnt go on the pill until I was 30 and I have been on Dianette, Microlite and Yasminelle along with the Nuva ring over the last 2 years. ( I've gone on all 4 mentioned contraceptives twice just to make sure)

I am at my wits end as the side effects from all pills' means my chest increases alot in size and become so tender and sore.
I have a small frame but am a D cup - and for those out there that wish they has a larger chest, believe me it aint all it's cracked up to me. I'm happy with my natural D cup but the pill makes me a DD/E and a very sore one.

Anyway, I give every pill/contraceptive atleast 3 months trial but nothing changes. I thought I was onto a winner with the Nuva ring but instead ended up getting very spotty oily skin on my back, chest and face. I can't win!

Has anyone else suffered similar side effects and did they find a winning answer?

I'd love to hear. Many thanks.

Do you mean you have done 'all four' for 2 months each?

    Hi,

Over the last 2 and a half years I have been on Dianette, Yasminelle, Microlite and Nuva ring all for 3 months each ( or more with some) and then trialed all of them again for the same amount of time or less. Just wanted to make sure.
I've gone to the womens clinic but what can they do - everyone is individual and I just wanted to see had anyone else reacted similarly to me with certain pills.

I'm the last person to complain with regards to health and rarely visit the doctor but in the last 2 years because of the above I seem to be going every few months to try something new.

    Thanks

Sorry m'lady, were you asking had I been on more than 1 contraceptive pill at any one time. God no! Just seem to be going from one to the other.

i have also side effects from taking the pill but i have only tried yasmin and dianette. I took yasmin for ages at first. i do notice that any time i take a break from the pill people tell me i have gotten skinny, but i dont actaully weigh any more when i am taking it, just seem to retain more water or something. I find when i am taking the pill i am less energetic, and my buzz for running deminishes which is very odd.
i took dianette when i was younger as i had bad skin and i went crazy, awful mood swings so i stopped that.
then recently enough i went from yasmin to dianette again as my skin had gotten very bad while taking yasmin. i noticed a definite increase in cup size, much bigger but not sore, a little more sensitive maybe. in a good way tho! and my skin improved, and there were no nasty side effects this time. however i decided to take a break from the pill for a month, as we were not having sex due to another issue, and i thought a break would do me good. then when a went back on it, things were awful! i got ridiculously emotional and one night with my bf we had a TINY argument and i cried for AGES. bawled! and that isnt like me at all. I also began to feel a bit depressed about minor things.
so i went back to yasmin. since doing that my skin has gotten worse again and i have been having break through bleeding even though this didnt happen when i first started taking it. but my boobs have shrank again!!

the pill is definately not without its problems, but it does seem to effect different people differently.. . its a mine field really isnt it!! id be interested in hearing what others have experienced or solutions people have discovered..

    Hi Bada Bing,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share.

I've never used a forum before today but thought it might help.

It's so reassuring to hear similar side effects. I've gone off the pill for a month to give myself a break and then it gets worse when I go back. I've/ am having bleeding as you had mentioned and I was on Dianette as a teenager for my skin also but then in my twenties wasnt really that active so never went back on it but am now in great relationship but I like you have had a few melt downs and it's so not like me to bawl my eyes out and be all needy, but you just go a little loopy with the side effects.

Hopefully someone else might reply to share a story or share a magic pill with us!

I've been on yasmin, dianette and nuvaring. (I'm only new to 'the ring' so can't say much about that.) On the subject of noticing side effects when you start a pill, I never got pms BUT the first day or two of the pill after every 7 day break were the a bit emotional. Everyone's different but for me I can see why if you're off the pill for 7 days (or on a break for a few months...) your body's going to notice it when you start putting extra hormones in. That's just my explanation of it but any pms-ish side effects only lasted a day or two til my body got used to it again.

i was on microlite( was grand for a year and then turned into the psycho bitch from hell) and then yasmin for 3 months(even worse if possible, i was crying every 5 mins and got back pain) and tried the patch (waste of time and money, horrible yoke, it was manky by day 5 of the week and got caught on my duvet and ripped off....ouch!!!)and now i'm on mercilon(month 5!) and am doing just fine!my very understanding doctor said that every woman reacts different to every pill,so don't give up just yet.

Are you determined to take the Pill?
Have you considered the Mirena IUS?

LilyPonds, please attend your local family planning association. They'll be much better able to help you with matters of contraception.

From seeing the pills you were on, which were all combined (I'm afraid I'm unaware of the homones used by the nuva ring.) you might be oestrogen intolerant.

I must stress though that I'm not a professional and you would definitely be best to head along to your local IFPA clinic. They deal with women on contraception all the time and would be your best source of information.

Best of luck. It sucks being a woman at times :)

    A.

    To all who replied,

A big thanks. No being used to a forum I come into work this morning and all these lovely people take the time out to give their 2 cent.

I'm not picky on what kind of contraception I use as long as it does the job. I had not heard of a couple of things that were mention there and yes I will attend the family planning clinic again but I reckon this guinea pig might have a little more trial and error ahead.

What ever I'm intolerant to my boobs get atleast a third bigger and even hurt if I skip up the stairs.

Oh and to PinkSphinks, the nuva ring was perfect in every way for me except it gave me spots. But it didnt effect the boobs or the mood so best of luck. My pal swears by it.

    Thanks again guys

I'm in my early 20s and have just started taking the Pill (Microlite). My hormones seem to be excessive now, but I'm told that that's normal for the first couple of weeks. I hope it's true!

Starflower oil supplements are good for breast tenderness. Supposedly.

I've taken Mercilon in the past and now on Yasmin. Found mercilon was awful for water rentention, lost 14 pounds when I changed to Yasmin!

I find yasmin really good, except for the increase in bra size, but then again its not the worst side affect

taking the pill is dosing yourself with female hormones. The equivalent for men is to use anabolic steroids (the way I see it). Of course that will have side-effects.

What do you use pwd as an alternative? id be interested in trying something else but would never trust, or be able to use, just condoms?

what is this nuva ring? (excuse my ignorance)
