Wireless Network

    Hi all,

I recently got my wireless pack from Eircom with a Netopia wireless modem/hub.

I dug a Netger Wg111 usb dongle out of a drawer and got to work. I installed Ndiswrapper so I could install the Windows driver for it and it found the network first time. Yay.

To check the driver were working etc I turned off the encryption on the modem and it connected no problems. I now would like to secure the network but I cant find a common protocol that both the router and the netgear dongle like.

When the encryption is turn on I type in the password and the icon spins but it dumps me back on the login screen.

    Any hints?

Failing that is there some way I can monitor the network and block unwanted freeloaders.

    Many thanks

in the router setting you should be able to specify what mac addresses are allowed to connect to your network, any network device (wired or wireless) that isnt on the list wont be able to connect.

....alternatively there is a script that you can put on your router that will flip all images on the internet upside down for mac addresses not on a spicified list, but i dont think its a very effective solution...fun though!!

I had the same problem with a linux machine, mac address filtering was the only solution.

Hi Joe, I have a netopia here working just fine with lnux + ndiswrapper. Have you tried using the command line wlantools to connect to the router, debug errors etc..?
