Well if you're at the stage where your considering marrying someone in the first place I really doubt you'd give a flying fuck what sort of background they were from

Well generally people don't pick other people up at random and just say "Lets get married even though we don't know a thing about each other". If you've spent all the time with the person leading up to the decision to marry them then you're hardly going to care that he/she is from whatever background and turn around and say "Actually darling, scratch that wedding, I just remembered your family are knackers".

I got a gig playing at a travellers wedding once. It was an interesting experience to say the least. They can certainly put the drink back and no mistake. The bar shut at 11.00pm on the dot and every one was cleared out at 11.30. The place was located at a remote area so no neighbours to complain. They had an unnerving fondness for Declan Nerney, the Longford based country singer who was a regular feature on the Galway country scene at the time so that kep them happy. They also had a fondness for trad played at full speed, as we were exhorted to play faster all night long.

Everyone danced. from 0 to what looked like 80 yrs of age but was probably closer to 60, travellers age fast and die young.................

No. It's a bloodline I wouldn't want to perpetuate. Now, why was "in before thread lock" posted earlier. Just curious! :D

Because this thread had/has as much potential to go off topic as a "Would you marry a member of the black community ?" thread

    Not a chance in hell.

Damn you OP for coming up with a thread that I cannot reply to. My replies rolling around my head are no PC or controlled enough for the forum charter.

    Damn you to H*LL!

Now that I would consider, but only if you were to throw in some used & potentially stolen tyres with it..

I agree with you here.. a person from any other country? no problem. A traveller? biiiiiiig problem.

& even if the traveller was sound - there's the travellers entire extended family to deal with too - theres bound to be a really bad apple somewhere in the barrel.

There was a feature about travllers on Prime Time Investigates a while back.
The interviewer asked one of the women would she marry a non-traveller("Buffers" they call us).
She said that her family would completely disown her if she contemplated it...it seems they're even less tolerant than us Buffers.

I couldnt go to mass every Sunday to start off with.

What am I going to do with all those generators?

    I dont like Carpet.

I wouldnt know where to start with the family? Who is the brother? Who is the father? Who is the mother and who is the daughter? Are they all the same person?

Im not partial to the blue like Brad Pitts mother.

    I dont like digs. :pac:

I dont like shopping in the Crescent shopping centre in Limerick on Sundays.

I dont want to grow my hair so long that I use some type of strange wax to push my hair back like somebody from 1940's New York.

jeebus - just thought; if the unholy union actually went ahead, would they move in with you - or would you be expected to be buying a "new" caravan that her da' has lying around the place.. *shudder*

    Well done.
Thanks for reporting this. You really are valued members of the community.

To the person who did actually report it, you did so one second after I locked it. :)

    Now for Terry's final word.

I see a lot of people here saying that they wouldn't marry a member of the travelling community. They speak of travellers as if they were a different breed.
Yet these same people would be the first to say that travellers are not an ethnic minority.

Now you can spin it whatever way you want, but to me that just reeks of racism. The same racism that had British people thinking of us as lower on the evolutionary scale less than 50 years ago. The same racism that saw black people dragged out of Africa and forced to pick cotton in America. The same racism that saw black people in South Africa segregated no less than 20 years ago etc ad infinitum.

The OP also failed to answer the question posed, which leads me to believe that this is nothing more than trolling and has earned him a ban.

Some of the other comments just reek of childishness.

c-13 hit the nail on the head.
Most of the other posts were childish and/or bigoted beyond belief.
