There's a load of reasons why there should be one, it costs nothing to implement (except a tiny bit of time) and would definitely declutter the place. Anyone second this?

What would be your intentions for this?do you want old skool to be segrated from the dance forum because it takes the spotlight away from 'modern' dance music, old skool is dance music and where the foundations for modern dance music comes from and should be discussed on the dance music forum,it should not be tucked away to suit elitist music snobs that think its a joke

Definitely not enough traffic on here to warrant it.

I don't see why a sub forum is needed, old skool like all genres of dance music has a place on here, sure if you create a forum for old skool you may as well for all genres.

Its pure music snobbery mate, they dont want old skool over shadowing 'new' dance music because old skool is viewed as outdated and abit of a novelty and takes away from discussion about modern tunes which I find as boring as cement,356,852 views of the asylum forum and over 5000 posts, has be a record, goes to show oldskool is still the mainstay of dance music and greatly overshadows the new stuff

eh it goes to show that old timers have more time on there hands.look at the crowds at the modern dance events, there packed.all the modern music festivals.granted there are busy oldschool events but there not as frequent.as for musical snobbery,it sounds exactly like what your after posting.claiming your form of music is better than another.
its totally ridiculous to think oldschool is over shadowing new music just because on this forum it seems to have alot of regular posters posting in one thread.go onto dmi or dmi.net and see how your oldschool threads go down.they actually laugh about that thread on other forums:D
nothing wrong with nostalgia but dont claim oldschool is doing anything new or threatening new music in any way when it clearly isnt.
as for a sub forum i dont think its necessary.

Point Im making is,Others and myself dont have problem with new tunes,I like certain genres of new tunes, but there are others who dont seem to like oldskool and the spotlight it gets here, and want to hide it away onto its own forum, but that means its not viewed in the same light as other dance music, thats not fair

As has been said, there isn't half enough traffic here to merit an old skool sub forum. Plus it would be a bit like taking a normal rock site and saying that there would be a special section for anyone discussing Guns n Roses, AC/DC and Whitesnake.

I like seeing it spelled 'old school' though.

How about we just get a "hearing aids and no short term memory" forum instead?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,000 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

Personally I dont think its needed, there isnt enoiugh traffic to warrant it. And then every genre would start wanting its own forum. cue fukked up-ness ala the 'Games' section

If you do want to request tho the Forums forum is the best place to go

I think we should have a sub forum for people from the New School to battle it out against people from the Old School.

It'd probably de-clutter the place no end!

    lol this I do like.

What about one big old V new thread? all old v new arguements, discussions or whatever go in there. No limits in the thread about what you can say. In fact it would be completely unmoderated cause I wouldnt even go into it!

Yeah thats sounds like a plan, at least a conclusion might be achieved... there is none.

I really can't see how its snobbery tbh? There's separate forums for punk/metal/classical/indie etc... There's more than enough traffic to merit one compared to other forums on boards and given the massiveness of the Asylum thread and the frequent threads posted up I can't see why the various zealots of acid house et al are taking such umbrage. I'm a massive fan of a lot of old school/jungle (as you can see from my posts) and I reckon that it'd be the best for all concerned.

Well if you find them as boring as cement, why wouldn't you welcome a new forum dedicated to your genre of choice? You wouldn't have to go avoiding all these threads and surely if there's two forums there'll be no issue with one 'overshadowing' the other.
As has been said, there isn't half enough traffic here to merit an old skool sub forum. Plus it would be a bit like taking a normal rock site and saying that there would be a special section for anyone discussing Guns n Roses, AC/DC and Whitesnake.

Or rather it would be a bit like them putting a 'classic rock' forum in.. Oh woops :D
Point Im making is,Others and myself dont have problem with new tunes,I like certain genres of new tunes, but there are others who dont seem to like oldskool and the spotlight it gets here, and want to hide it away onto its own forum, but that means its not viewed in the same light as other dance music, thats not fair

And there are others who don't like 'newschool' and the spotlight it gets, and would prefer it out of mind/out of sight. It works both ways. Surely given the response it would be the 'newschool' dance forum that would fail rather than the oldschool one?

Well I'd second it but it would just be Jonny in there chatting to himself. Isn't the Asylum thread basically the old skool forum?

Well if the Asylum thread is anything to go by well then no, a point you alluded to yourself in the next line of you post.

I'm locking this up. As per usual the bitching has started

Fear not though lads, use this thread for all your old v new bitching from now on.

If anyone seriously wants to ask for an old skool sub forum then need to make the request in the forums forum (link in one of my earlier posts on this thread)
