how do i move on for good from the ex? story in short, went out with ex for close on 5 years. was mad about her. we where very different people but all the same i always loved her and the person she was. anyway, broke up nearly 6 months ago. we where best mates and really no-one wanted to hurt the other person when we broke up, but it was on the cards. i was gutted when we finished. took me a long time to come to terms with it. 6 months on, things are alot better. i've dated a couple of people, confidence is slowly coming back, started doing things that i want to do, and don't think about ex alot like i used to do. thing is, occassionally i do still miss her soooo much. when this happens i get so lonely and sad. at this stage i shouldn't miss her as much as i do. i hate hearing what she is up to but i also really wanna know as well. how can i move on and accept for good we are never gonna get back together and stop feeling so lonely when these thoughts overcome me?

I think you're doing pretty ok so far - it IS hard though but you're getting out there and meeting people. Continue as you've been doing. You can't let an old relationship define you though, it's over so that part of your life is over. You are really doing well though. You will wake up one morning and she won't be the first thing you think about - it won't be tomorrow but it will happen. You'll meet someone new and wonderful and you will feel the same or more for this new person - just believe it can happen.

    Funny...

I was chatting with my ex this evening and i do miss him!

Hey, it is tough coming out of a 5yr relationship. I broke up with the ex after 5yrs together and now after two years i do miss him(i don't want him back-just miss him).

Anyways, things would only get better from now. PLEASE stay away from her, try to avoid updates on her life... It ends up screwing you over when you find out she's been on dates and is sleeping with other people. You expect her to be as miserable as you are.
You need a clean break from all of this, enjoy playing the field and the single life for now.

    Goodluck

Definitely don't beat yourself up. It sounds like you're doing a really good job so far. It's perfectly normal to have the feelings your having. The best thing is to try and accept them when they come and not to get mad at yourself for having them. Just acknowledge, OK, I'm feeling sad right now because of blah, blah, blah. Sometimes if you get annoyed at yourself for the feelings and thoughts that you have you make them strong and the keep repeating themselves. Just accepting them will make you stronger and feel better in the long run. If you could avoid temptation to hear how she is doing this would also help you a lot.
Sorry if this doesn't make sense to you. I wish you luck though.

sounds like youre doing really well so far. to even manage to get out on a few dates is a big step, well done.

i know how you feel. i think its normal to miss someone after youve been with them for so long (i hope so anyway, or else im going crazy). just gotta pull past the sad bits & hold on to the happy times when you get them. when you feel sad remember youve felt happy before & youll get there again.

    Hi ya,
I know exactly how you feel. I miss my ex aswell alot but you need to keep thinking of the reasons why it didn't work out and cherish the good times you had with her.
Its the only thing that's moving me forward. I don't want to know what people she's been with; I refuse to find out and I don't go to the same places as she goes anyway. To be honest, I'm taking a rest from club scene for a while until my head is sorted out. That could take days/weeks/months. I don't know yet. It's very hard and I totally understand your situation as I'm there myself.
If you want to chat sometime OP, let me know!
