I tought Caoimhe Kings performance in the triple jump was quiet impressive with 11.97m National Junior record was it? in only her second year in the event and will surely go well over 12m this season.I always wonder why the event doesnt begin for girls until u17 even though an u16 can do it at junior level and a 13/14 year old can do it at schools competitions. Same with womens pole vault;our athletes end up 3/4 years behind other countries before they even start.
Claire Fitzgearld had her first throws over 13metres[AAI games] in the shot also and young Edmond O Hallorans easy wins in the junior and AAI games hurdles in i think his first competition over 3"6 was quiet good. While not outstanding Laura Crowes win in the 1000m is another sign that she may be on the way back to the 2.06 800m form she showed as a 16/17 year old.Overall i think the indoor standards this season are quiet good so far, could list another 7 or 8 impressive performances! If the Munster juveniles werent on the weekend of the National Senior indoors id love to go because i think it will be a fantastic competition.

I agree, very impressive and it did break old the National Junior record held by Mary McLoone. She's an U18 athlete so has 2 more years left in the Junior grade.

Regarding why TJ is not started earlier for girls, as far as I understand the event is considered very severe on growing bones/joints and particularly your hips - so there is a reluctance to have young athletes do too much of it before they have completed their growth.

Not sure though why boys start younger since their growth phase lasts longer than girls.

He hurdled over 3"3 on both days but it was still a good time. He is young at 17 but it was the first time that I saw him hurdle and he is a classy hurdler, very smooth and looks easy. Early days and very young to be talking about the guy but if he bulks up in the next few years he could be a decent hurdler. Outside of Coghlan and McDonald we have no high hurdlers and not since Timothy Flannery have we had a good junior.

Yet triple jump games are part of the little athletics program!! I think triple jump is the same as any event, you do too much or do it wrong and you increase the chance of injury etc but the same could be said for shot putt, distance running, sprinting etc.In saying that that excuse does not cover pole vault which imo is started way too late!
Back to topic,i hope she keeps improving this year as last year she seemed to peak a little early and faded towards the end of the season.Anybody any idea what she needs to be jumping to have a good chance at euro youths?

My bad, assumed he did 3"6 at AAI games.Yes he is a classy hurdler and what impresses me most is the fact that he started out a few years back as a very average athlete and with alot of hard work has improved so much.Im sure he will be looked after at Leevale and improve even further and become that good junior hurdler we havent had in a while. What ever happened to Timothy Flannery?
