Hello folks.I am seeking advice on a good and reasonably priced HRM.

I already have a cadence cateye, so Idon't necessarily want to fork out on another computer with a HRM. I would be perfrectly happy with the wrist watch type. Are these any good?

I know nothing about hrm's but feel at this satge that I need to get one. There are times that I am pushing myself to hard and not pacing myself - Iwould like to be ableto manage these situations a bit better, and feel that a hrm may help.

    thanks

You really need to decide what you need it for. I bought one to track all my rides because I was (until yesterday) training specifically for an event and wanted all my ride hr, speed etc on the computer. I have had a few different monitors and fr cycling I can't fault the polar cycling range. A few guys on the boards spins with the 200 Model and it seems to work well. For cycling I use the Polar 600 Pro Edition but as i said I bought it for a specific purpose.

If all you really want is a way of monitoring your HRM while riding then a wrist version would work fine as long as you mount it on your handlebars. Again any bsic polar, or Suunto, is good.

Do you have any idea what your looking for?

Based on your post and depending on your budget, any of the polars will do. They range from the basic HRM at 60e up. More price gets you more functions eg average hr calories burned but all anyone really uses for training is the heart rate reading

Cheers folks. All I really ant is for it to measure my HR, so that I can cycle mostly in an optimal way and know when to spend a litlle bit more effort/energy to get up those hills.

As I already have a reasonable computer to compute speed, avg speed, cadence etc, all I want is a measure of heart rate.

Then the basic polar is what you want. 60e ish in shops. Maybe cheaper on ebay

you should have bought the Polar Cs200 cad originally, has all the functions that your computer has plus heart rate monitor, It's a very popular and easy to use computer, you can also upload all your data onto a personaltrainer site and see how you are progressing

You to buy need an IrDA USB 2.0 Adapter to upload with. You would upload into polar pro trainer which should have come with your cycle computer.

um, i don't think so. not for the 200 i think.

it relies on transmitting its data by using this program and microphone and speakers. it beeps and whistles and clicks and, through the magic of finnish technology, things get transferred. dial up, basically. that said i haven't actually experimented with getting it to work yet as i'm finding that just tapping in my stats into excel adequate to record and analyse my mediocrity. and i can't find a microphone. maybe the polar training software is worth investigating, but i have yet to feels arsed about it.

yeah, not really arsed myself now... sounds a bit much. i'll just plug the data into iCal.

Ah.... you are correct.. Transfer exercise data from wrist unit to polarpersonaltrainer.com via Polar WebLink (SonicLink/Infrared)

    I knew I bought the 600 for a reason.
