    By Mark Vester (BoxingScene.com)

Before Shane Mosley (46-5, 39KOs) stopped Antonio Margarito (37-6, 27KOs) in the ninth round of their action-packed bout at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California, HBO announced to the televised audience that Margarito's hands were found to be illegally wrapped and had to be re-wrapped three times to make them legal.
According to the HBO announcers, Mosley's trainer Nazim Richardson, was in Margarito's dressing room to observe the wrapping of his hands. He saw some kind of substance in Margarito's wrappings that was not suppossed to be there. He alerted someone from the California State Athletic Commission. A person from the commission checked Margarito's wraps and agreed with Richardson, noting that a substance had been used on the wraps which made them harden into a plaster like shell. The allegation by Richardson, and from what HBO had reported, is the substance was being used to harden the wraps to add more punching power to Margarito's shots.
During the live broadcast, HBO continued to ask the repeated question of whether or not Margarito had used the same substance on his wraps prior to entering the ring for last July's knockout win over Miguel Cotto. The incident is sure to put a black cloud above Margarito for some time.

    grow up "maradona10,"
i mean get over it, it was in the past and at least he came clean about it.
Shane Mosley deserves so much respect for what he done lastnight,
he brought out the speed and power in which i also knew he still posessed.

And Margarito aint nothing but a cheating bum,
who just got his granite chin smashed

    More the matter.........
    Taken from BoxRec

Before the fight, Officials found what one doctor described as plaster hidden in the wrapped hands of Margarito, leading to accusations that Margarito may have been trying to cheat. According to Judd Burstein, the attorney for Mosley, Margarito had wet pads in the wrapping. Mosley's doctor, Robert Olvera, likened the material to the type of plaster used to make casts. Burstein said he seized the pad removed from the wrapping and another pad found in Margarito's dressing room. Both were placed in a sealed box that was given to Dean Lohuis of the California Boxing Commission for further study. After the suspicious pads were removed from Margarito's dressing room, the boxer's hands were rewrapped and the fight went off on time

Eerie memories of Billy Collins V Luis Resto from 1983.

It does indeed cast doubts over Marg and the fact that Cotto was so
brutaly bet' down; does add fuel to the fire.
I had a bet on Shane to win over 12 rds.

I don't rate Marg very higly and his predictable and ponderous
style will always see speedsters with chins and skills trouble him; now, Mosley
also needes he stamina. This is where I wasn't too confident.

I didn't see the bout; but will try to view it. Any links?

it was in the past and quite possibly he did so before that and up until the balco story broke. he took them for a fight against his friend(Oscar) for jesus sake, what a nice fellow!!! with friends like that

and its possible he could still be doing it, albeit highly unlikely giving the scrutiny he's under.

dont look at things with rose tinted glasses just cos you like the guy.

it seems the fact that he admitted it and seems like a nice guy is whats keeping him out of jail. dont gloss over the seriousness of what he did and the potential danger he put his opponent in. there should be sanctions at least against him

A cloud will always hang over Shane due to the Balco scandal, and rightly so!

    Thanks for the link Diego

what saw Margarito through in others fight, namely his granite jaw, didn't work this time. I think if Cotto hadn't broken nose, which robbed him of stamina, and had a bit more power in his punches he'd have done what Mosley did last night. Margarito has an incredible chin, and is a brawler, but he's not really a great boxer as was shown against Williams, who picked him off time and again, and it was the same last night. Still i don't want to take away from what Mosley accomplished; he moved around the ring like a man in his prime. His footwork, punching speed and accuracy was brilliant. It's a pity he doesn't retire now because it can't get any better than last night.

There was some difference between Shane last night and Shane v Mayorga!!!
I thought he was just making a statement to Margarito in the first, and when he kept it up I thought he would gas. Such a performance.

Mayorga was 180 lbs in the ring that night,........ HBO saw a completely different version of events to the version from the Setanta commentry team !
Ive always said it ,.. that when Mosley fights on Setanta that that usual american commentator has it in for Shane.
His coverage of the Mosley v Cotto fight was shameful :o

Mosley won virtually every round in my book that night,.... against a much bigger and stronger man.
