3D movies pointless if you wear glasses?

I just went to see My Bloody Valentine 3D, the movie was alright but I was mostly interested because the effects were meant to be good. But If your wearing 3D glasses over normal glasses then it's pretty rubbish. Focus was all over the place.. I've got some serious eye strain on me after it. Loads of strobing as well. Anything patterned like peoples shirts was flashing and wrecking my head.

    swap em.

I noticed the same thing, but if you have your glasses on the outside and the 3d glassess on the inside (yes with some type of glassess it might be difficult, wasnt so with mine) then your eyes focus up alot better.

Have you any quality street left over from the Xmas hols? If so then you could sellotape the wrappers from a suitable pair of sweets to your own glasses and in doing so fashion yourself a pair of presciption 3d specs.

Unfortunately I couldn't get my glasses to fit around the 3D ones so that option was out.

The Quality Street suggestion is far more practical.

I don't really see 3D being anything more than a fad this time around unless they can accomodate people with **** eyesight. My eyes are completely knackered today and it's the day after. Having a serious hangover is a probably a factor but still.

Think ur wrong with the 3D being a fad this time around, the technology has come a long long way since the old red and green glass's.

Even George Lucas has announced that he may re-release his Star Wars films in 3-D, both James Cameron and Tim Burton are also releasing Films this year using the Real D 3D technology.

Also DreamWorks Animation are releasing Monsters vs. Aliens soon and it will be the first fim to be made from Real D tech from the start and not having it impossed afterwards

I've pretty bad eyesight myself. But the 3D glasses fit on comfortably over my own frames and I have absolutely no problem with eyestrain or having the images out of focus.

i only went to a 3d movie once "beowolf" in USA. was EXCELLENT 3d wise.
i wore contacts, if thats an option for you i'd def recommend it, you can buy the daily disposables pretty cheap, i buy 3mnths supply at a time and usually does me about a year and a half!

also, i presume they use polarised glasses now and not the red/green ones?

Think ur wrong with the 3D being a fad this time around, the technology has come a long long way since the old red and green glass's.

At the moment its still a fad for a number of reasons in numerous aspects.

Commercially it increases the sales revenue of cinemas but its cost vs profit ratio in the overall revenue (DVD, TV sales etc) is a major factor considering the 3D has no effect in these markets at the moment, resulting in two processess being made towards production.

Process 1, they take a film already in production and apply the real 3d effects, working your way through that list of films the number of productions actually built from the ground up with 3D cinema as the goal greatly decreases the vast majority have been adapted to be available in both 3D and traditional. So in those cases 3D is a fad, its an afterthought to bring in more sales in the theatre run.

The other aspect are the films that go for broke and have 3D as the focus, the recent My bloody Valentine is a good example. The problem with these films is that narratively they are rubbish, they spend far too much time trying to play up the 3D wow factor that the film itself is rubbish for the most part.

The best thing going for Reel3D at the moment is as you said some big names have become involved in their productions which brings us on to the next aspect and what they could change.

Critically 3D has never and still has not brought a new dynamic to film production. CGI, SFX etc while have been scorned as the death of intelligent films have brought whole new elements to film in their setting, development, production etc etc. THey added to films. Hell SFX practically created the blockbuster that we have endured for the last thirty years.

3D on the other hand is still at a state that it hasnt been used to engross the viewer into the film, its made to be noticed and stand out rather on its own then as part of the film (yes I know CGI and SFX stand out aswell, but when done right they stand out as set pieces or dynamic sequences, not as SFX/CGI, 3D is always 3D in every production its been in.)

Which brings me to James Cameron, 3D will stop being a fad completely on Avatar, its helmed by a director who has again and again proven to use SFX to help carry the narrative rather then to simply wow and if Avatar does the same, actually use 3D as a part of the narrative then yes, it will stop being a fad and become a cinematic staple.

But until then its a fad.

I dont think I've actually seen a good 3D film yet?

I'd like to be able to enjoy 3D cinema, but it really doesn't work for me. And if it doesn't work for everyone then it's not going to take off.

Avatar is the one I was most looking forward to. That'll be the make or break movie alright.
