I bought a new white chain today for my bike. What's the best oil to buy to keep it white. Someone said something about a paraffin based spray you can buy. Has anyone got the name of one or is there anything better?

Are you planning on riding the bike outside?

OK I'm trying to keep the chain as clean as possible. I was told the paraffin based lubricant helps keep dirt away.

White Lightning Extreme, applied regularly, would be your best bet.

Spray on lubes don't tend to penetrate the important bits and you end up with a lot of surface film which will attract dirt and mess up your pants.

I admire your adherence to the rules and fashion however, kudos sir!

Dry lube would be less likely to attract dirt. Key to keeping the outside of the chain clean is thoroughly wiping off any excess oil after application. You want to wipe the thing as much as possible until there is basically no trace of oil left (inside the chain is where you want the oil.)

    Try Pro Gold Prolink :

I've just started using it after Epic Cycles raved on about it, and I'm really impressed, chain is as clean as a whistle, and no black crap, unlike that ridiculous overpriced POS Campagnolo lube spray !

You can order the Prolink from here :
