Well not nessecarily £1 but somethign along the lines of what Clarkson did on top gear when they were buyign a cheap banger. He got a Volvo for £1 from a main dealer as it was going to the scrap yard anyway because it was worth feck all.

Anyone know if it would be possible to do the same here?

I'm looking for something dirt cheap to free that I can use to just tinker with myself and learn a few things. I'd obviously be after something that drives and doesnt look like it has already been through a crusher (although body condaition wouldnt really be important)

Had been rooting around the various sites but not coming up with much at all. Probably be wasting my time banging off a few emails to dealers too which was my only other thought on the subject.:)

Even most of the cars for under €500 or so here seem to be next to useless (of the few I found a couple had no engines). I'm not after a restoration project so dont need to be spending mad money buying parts, it's more soemthign to dismantle and put back together which is why it would need to be running.

Again, I'd echo keeping an eye on the adverts.ie site.
I got a 97 Volvo v40 for free from this site some time ago. Odo showed 144k miles, engine still sounded sweet.
It needed a bit of tidying up, new tyres, some suspension components, etc.. about 550E in all for parts, labour done by myself.
Passed the NCT first go and was sold within a fortnight for 1600E. I have met the guy I sold it to a few times since, and hes very happy with it.

I got a Renault Laguna for free. Owner couldn't sell it because of a vibration up front. So he just got rid of it.

Took it off his hands, was a bit unsure about it considering how expensive getting the joints/suspension would be, turns out all it needed was to have a wheel balanced after one of the weights came off.

I did have a look at that, but wasnt a runner because it wasnt drivign. I dont have the means to get a none runner car back to my house, plus I need to be able to move the car in and out of the garden when needed.

It wasn't free because it was worth feck all. It was because it had a lot wrong with it.

Sorry bud, I'll hang onto it. Everything else seems buttoned down alright. No odd rattles, no squealing fanbelt... NCT will tell though whenever that's due.
