Correct tyre pressure?

    Hi,
I've always gone by the sticker on the door of my van that says I should put 3.5 (50psi) bars into the front and 4.10 into the back (60 psi). I was in getting a new tyre fitted the other day and was told that I should keep all tyres around 55 psi to even the load and spread the weight on the tyres and it would create less road noise aswell and that if I have a full van load and I inflate the tyres to 4.1 bars when I've an empty van, that when it's full (an extra 1.5 tonne in the back) it'll be too much pressure on the tyres.

If anyone could share their opinion on this I'd appreciate it :)

Unless you've changed the wheels and tyres to non standard go with manufactures recmonendations. They'd know better then some tyre fitter.

Does the sticker/manual not give pressure for loaded and empty driving? Don't over inflate as it reduces grip and can affect tyre life.

In fairness, is 5psi at that pressure level going to make much difference anyway?

May all your worries be little ones.

    always go with manufacturer recommendation.
a 5psi drop does make a big difference.
a .6 bar underinflation will reduce tyre life by around 50%. not to mention the extra fuel cost caused by increased rolling resistance.
that is without going in to the problems with handling etc.

I find that very hard to believe. Can you link to some back-up perhaps please?
