I'm currently doing common entry engineering and was wondering does anyone know what Electronic systems is like.

Its basically an easy version of Electronic Engineering.

you get to go to France! I wanted to do Electronic Systems when I was finished first year, and they didn't tell me until the start of second year that I couldn't do the course because of the fact that I was the only person who put my name down for the course!

I still got to go to France, and now doing EE, which is a pretty tough course, but if I did Electronic Systems, it'd have have been less hard subjects. If you like Electronics, but find it hard, and want to go away to France, it's pretty cool, if more than 3 people want to do it...

the system in France is MUCH easier to pass than over here... you have exams throughout the semester instead of at the end, and the credits for each course you take are 1, 1.5 or 2 credits, and you're guaranteed to do a masters (optional) in France again when you're finished fourth year, which is also pretty cool.

Oh, didn't think it was an easier version. Do you reckon Electronic Engineering is the better course then?

It's only easier if you're good at French or business. Electronic Engineering is pretty hard, but if you want a hardcore engineering job at the end, then go for it. If you're not THAT bothered, then Electronic Systems is good too.

Check out http://www.esigelec.fr/ for any of the options that you can do in France - there are 8 majors that you can choose from. It looks good that you've studied abroad at the end of the day. Some of the majors can be done through English - Embedded Systems for example.

It's up to you at the end of the day which one you'd go for. If you breeze with Electronics anyway, you could stick with EE. When you get to fourth year and are mad stressed, you might regret not going for ES. Just go talk to Jim Dowling or Pascal Landais about it. They're pretty involved in the ES side of thing. I think Pascal is the program chair. And talk to Connor Brennan about EE - he's program chair of that!

I think it is more academic and well recognised worldwide.

You don't want to be going into every interview having to explain what
"Electronic Systems" actually is and how its relevant.

It is pretty much all maths up until 4th year where you actually
start to do interesting subjects. I found 2nd/3rd year tough but
    loved 4th year in EE.

I'm now doing the Taught masters which allows
you to specify your major in Electronic Systems but unsurprisingly,
no one does this as its worthless. The majority have specified in either
    Network Implementation, Imaging or Photonics.

I just think you will regret doing Electronic Systems which isn't that
much different than EE but is perceived quite differently.
