Should be more specific, I mean for a rocking sound, e'g gun's n roses, aerosmith etc, I love the sound of the marshall valve amp I have, but it's ridiculously heavy and it's huge, and it's after breaking, any suggestions, or patricularly good pedals even?

You might be better posting this on the "Instruments" forum. :)

What configuration are you after? Is it the only criteria you have? Do you want a head + cab, combo (1x12, 2x12...), valve amp, solid state, hybrid? What's your budget? Do you only play classic rock type stuff? Do you need an amp that can do it all?

I would highly recommend the marshall JVM series. It's by far hard the most complete affordable valve amp on the market. I recently swapped an Engl Fireball for the JVM410 head. I don't regret it!!! 1 shared eq for 2 channels with the fireball against 4 fully independent chanels with the JVM (3 modes per channel... fully footswitchable).

    Can't beat it.

I've owned and gigged these amps over the years.
Marshall Anniversary 6101 combo, Marshall JTM 60, Marshall valvestate 80 80, Marshall DFX 100.
Fender twin(3 types), Fender blues deville, blues deluxe.
    Laney VC50(yuck)

Now after 20 years gigging I have it down to 2 amp gig setups.

My favourite is an old 69' 50W plexi head with JCM900 4*12 cab.
I'm used to lugging it around now and it just f**kin rocks. For extra OD I use a TS9 and have a couple of fuzzes and self modded crybaby wah.

For smaller gigs where space is an issue, I use a fender hot rod deville on the clean channel with pedals for OD. My main OD here is the Hughers and Kettner Tube factor.

I would recommend the JVM series too. The best Marshall in a long time..

Check out the new series one range from Blackstar in the uk.

They sound amazing and will match any marshall or mesaboogie in my opinion!
