Cheap Freesat - Problems

I was given a freesat box, Pilot I think are the manufacturers, anyway, asked the missus to get some coax so I could set it up and see what we get off it. She brought home Digital Coax 25m for 15 euro.... after a while anyway I set the box up and had about 85% signal and 50-60% quality... the thing is now that I am in the evening the signal has plummeted and I'm getting very little quality at all??

    Could this be
    a) the freesat box.
    b) the coax
    c) poor connections on the F connectors, although these seem fine and there were no initial problems.

    d) Who knows.

Any assistance will be appreciated although I'm beginning to think there is going to be a cost involved..

    Right so....

First, I don't want to appear pedantic, but you have a Free To Air box, not a freesat box.

    Anyway, on to your problem.

The chances are that it is probably the dish being a little off, maybe not tightened enough and slipped a little...

I doubt very much that it is the cable, unless someone has been messing with it since the install.

Tomorrow, try moving the dish ever so slightly from left to right and from right to left to see if it improves the signal.

Also, the vertical allignment may be slightly off... The dish should be almost vertical when looked at from the side depending what part of the world you are in.

Will take a look at the dish later then, my question though is why does the signal deteriorate so badly in the evening? Even though last night was the first night of viewing I was disappointed to see it was nigh on useless? The other box in the front room, a sky+ box was fine...???

It shouldn't get worse at night....

As I said, the only thing I can think of is a slightly misalligned dish. Is it working fine now?

is the sky+ box connected to the same dish? Or is this FTA box you got connected to a different dish?

It does sound like a dish out of line problem. But if the sky+ box is working ok from the same dish then i doubt it is the dish then?

Well it seems to be perfect now, the signal is still a little weak according the the display but to be honest I'll accept it as it is.... It.s running in the kitchen and allows me to watch news and hear the radio if required and that'll do nicely.

    Tks for comments.

Was it raining when the reception was bad?
