Why do you want to upgrade? Is there something wrong in particular with the PC?

Everything looks grand, except for the RAM, an upgrade to 2GBs would serve you well, and memory is very cheap these days.

All depends on what you use the machine for, that spec is grand for web/email/WP and does not need an upgrade.

    yes upgrade the ram bigtime.

i had similar specs on my old laptop. it had 512 ram. I upgraded to 2GB and i noticed a huge difference.

you will notice a major difference from 256mb.

a selection of ram for you.

if you dont know what type of ram you need then download http://www.cpuid.com/download/cpuz_149.zip it will tell you information about your ram and and the rest of the computer.

if you've been happy with that spec up to now, you can get another year or two of life out of it by upgrading the ram: assuming you have 2x128MB ram cards, get 2x512MB Cards. That should do plenty, and at the moment is still much cheaper than going to 2gb, which I doubt you will need (also I wonder whether your motherboard could take it)

If you want to take it further:

check whether your hard drive is SATA or IDE and then buy a suitable second Hard Drive if you need more storage space. The processor looks grand.

If you need more of a graphical umph, you can get something good for your machine for around 50e.

Quick Q: Whats your current Display Adapter, and how much Disk Space do you have in total?

I really want to play games such as counter-strike on it..

    Total hardrive space is 37GB.

Display Adapter: Intel(R) 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics Controller

that wont be able to play CSS but shouldnt have much problems playing Condition Zero or CS 1.6

You have to find out whether you have a PCI or AGP slot (you wont have PCI-e) and then buy a card. Any PC store will supply a decent low end card for that.

Thanks for your help Overheal, Would you know how I can find out if I have a PCI or an AGP slot?

Quick and easy way is to open the PC case . If all the expansion slots are white you need a PCI gfx card , if there's a brown slot you have AGP . Hopefully you'll have AGP - considerably cheaper and better technology . Buying a PCI card you'll be paying for the rarety , not the performance .

Sorry - I know this is a stupid question but what are the 'expansion slots'

Sorry , I should have added a pic for clarity . You wont have ISA (at least I hope not!) as they are ancient but this pic should help ...

agp card are far mo expensive then PCI Express, the latest agp are geforce 7900 or ati 3000 series.... its enough for counterstrike and some other games.... but that would be it... no more upgrade after that.... when its fine u can stick with that... or upgrade to a intel core 2/amd x2 + mb+ pci-express card+ ram (about 200,- together) ( its a 2006 config, the prices are really down now)... the problem with computerparts is, when they new, they cost, then they fall in price, and then when no one are building them anymore, the go up in price again... worse is with ram, the older generation is as expensive as the new one...
