Can posters recommend their best bike locks?
    I'm thinking of buying two.
One long one that'll go around both wheels and a shorter stronger type.

    Thanks.

cycling plus does a review this month of destruction tests.
the 2 that come out on top are the kryptonite new york and the abus granite something-or-other.
all the cable-locks basically melt at the sight of a butterknife.

Kryptonite Evolution Mini is what I use, and like. If I were to get another, it's be the New York Mini

I have two of these. Last one bought from CRC.

    Only problems are:

    - it's difficult to attach to bike - the "universal" Kryptonite frame mounts doesn't cope with the girth of the shackle, and it's too heavy to confidently use velcro-type torch/gun mounts.

    - quite a small shackle, so you have to be choosy about what you lock it to.

But from a security POV, it's well beefy.

You put it in a pocket!

I have had a kryptonite new york lock keep my bikes safe for the last year and a half on the dangerous streets of ucd. Touch wood so far. The mini might be an option, my one weighs an absolute ton so it gets left on the railing. The odd spray with some ptfe spray keeps everything nice and smooth.

A cable lock/u-lock is a good mix. If you are worried about your wheels being nicked then you might want to get rid of quick releases if you have them.

Just as important as the lock is where you leave it, don't assume that a good lock makes you invulnerable, a thief with tools can cut any lock given enough time and privacy.
