New U2 song - slagging thread

Having overheard this drivel again today in the canteen I was reminded of the Frank Black quote years ago when he said that the bad pop music of yesterday seems good now because of the bad pop music of today, and I think this logic definitely applies to U2.

I wouldn't be a fan but have the greatest hits and like the classics, but I get embarressed with every new batch of singles (1 or 2 scrape by), mainly the big comeback single. The current one is no exception and I can't help thinking that in 5 years time when they release another album and throw out the new hit that I will think that the current new song isn't as bad as it.
It sounds like a piece of crap a new Irish band would throw out, I don't like the polished production and... agh it's all bad.

A bit of a disappointment alright. It sounds like they were at the musical equivalent of a buffet, ate too much and threw up everywhere. So many nods to so many bands/styles that the song ends up making no sense.

It's crap. It sounds like all the other crap they've put out since the mid 80's.

But it's deadly cos they're Oirish

    U2 have always been sh*te.
Even 20 years ago they were overhyped.
Pathetic the way music journalists in the Irish papers write articles on this new single when they couldn't recognise new talent.

Its alright. Great to see they have not given up on absoloute nonsense lyrics :pac:

the future needs a big kiss
    winds blow with a twist
never seen a moon like this
    can you see it to?

    night is falling everywhere
    rockets hit the fun fair
satan loves the bombscare but he won’t scare you

    ......i’ve gotta a submarine you’ve got gasoline
i don’t wanna talk about war between nations

It is hard to believe someone actually wrote this :P

Tripe of the lowest order, even worse than Vertigo which sums it up really

Is anyone surprised? U2 have sucked for years. The most overrated band on the planet. The music has become more and more banal as time goes on.

    There I said it.

We need another U2 single as much as we need another Fine Fail TD.

More slop from the uber average. Even Coldplay (shudder) sound interesting next to them.

Yes, I concur with these well thought-out words :p

No, seriously, he's a plonker. The problem now, however, is that he can churn out whatever **** he wants and the stupid fools would still buy it.

Oh jesus. To be honest I haven't heard it until just now on youtube, and yes, it's a pile of bollix.

Funniest thing are the idiots on youtube defending it
I understand this song does not strike the listener at first because it is a complex song. Its not your average pop rock which is all that is played on the radio today. We are just not used to hearing quality mainstream ROCK music in a while, all we are used to is Fall out Boy and Coldplay
this will take a few listens and it look like U2 are gone back to experimenting with a new sound
so this album is aim to the underground scene and fans and like Achtung Baby & Zooropa
it aim to change the sound of rock n roll in the 21st century

    :pac::pac::pac:
