Anyone gotten car parts from ebay - looking for a set of front wishbones. The motor factors want ~50 quid each, ebay seller with 100% rating wants 20quid each. These include bushes and balljoint. Should I be wary at all or is it just that much cheaper for parts in the UK ?

Hard to know unless you can identify if they are OEM parts or a known good aftermarket brand. No-name parts can be good or bad; but you won't know until they wear out.
Try pricing recognised brands in the UK. I've bought OEM from
www.carparts-direct.co.uk and from UK dealers & saved. What's the car?

    mk4 golf

I was looking at gsf as well - they are similar prices to the motor factors (otto) here plus no idea of the quality.

I'd be wary of buying critical parts off ebay. Way too many fakes on it to risk wrecking your car for €100. And then there's the risk of getting the wrong part. Try a scrappers or NI.

    yeah had a quick look

The ebay guy is selling with balljoint included for less than most places are selling just the wishbone. Its 20stg (inc VAT) for wishbone with bushes and balljoint from ebay or ~25stg + 8stg(balljoint) from other sites (ex VAT)

its surely a false economy buying wishbones from a breakers?

regardless i recently purchased brake pads for a significant saving from

    http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/sqsauto/

I found I had great communications with them (I rang them to enquire about postage) and all in all were great to deal with

Not saying there isn't a risk in buying off ebay but if you find a reputable autofactors with an ebay presence I wouldn't see what the problem is

I've bought loads of parts on ebay, actually I bought a car on ebay too... never had any issues, but that's because I knew exactly what I wanted.

For the same car I got discs and pads for the front and rear, €110 including shipping:)
Its not oem so they'll be crap but they'll do the job to get it past the nct.

Yeap, I've bought a few parts from Ebay, some good Ebay shops with planety of stuff. Very cheap, but sometimes it's also worth supporting your local dealer. x.gif

Ive decided against the ebay parts - just too cheap. Probably going to get bushes from dealer and have a go at pushing them in myself

Plenty of washing up liquid will help squeeze them on. If you have a a bench vice it will make it a bit easier too. What make/model of car is it? VW Golf?

I've bought parts and a car off ebay, too. Usually body parts and bodykists, and a set of alloy wheels. Prices worked out well, as did quality.

    1996, 3.0TD, Auto, now commercial.

I do agree with this. Sometimes you'll even find the dealer cheaper (have found this with BMW once or twice). Unfortunately, sometimes the dealer can't get the parts you're looking for.
