Maybe should post in the swimming forum but felt that more people here would have experience of HRM training.

I've a garmin forerunner 50 and a nike triax C5. Is it possible to use either of these while swim training? I think I read somewhere that the water can disrupt the signals from the transmitter to the watch...

I've used my garmin and polar HRM's while swimming without difficulty even though they are not rated for swimming (the garmin at least, I can't remember with the polar). I've never had a problem with signals and the values always looked sensible to me. That said, you're not going to be able to track your HR while acutally swimming the way you can while cycling and running so it's very much as an after the event tool.

I've tried the Polar a few times in the pool and also in the couple of tri's I've done .
In the pools it stays in position as as you don't kick hard off the wall , otherwise it slips downward to your stomach which is annoying but can't be helped I suppose
I haven't had signal issues while in the water.

There was a guy in the pool last night with a Polar HRM and I asked him about it. He said the same as Abhainn just said (maybe it was him...) that it can slip down when you kick off, but other than that it worked well.

I know Garmin say that you can't wear them whilst swimming as I was thinking about using my Forerunner.
