    Hi all,

I am a proud owner of an old but awesome G-shock:
http://www.superchrono.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=236 that is in dire need of a battery replacement.
Can anyone suggest a reputable watch repair/battery replacement service in Dublin that will replace the battery and maintain the 200m water resistance? Someone with the proper equipment to replace the seal and the reset the vacuum etc. etc.

    Cheers :)

I'm not aware of anywhere that will replace a battery in house and guarantee the water resistance. Most places will insist on sending it back to the manufacturer if you want to keep the water rating.

Weirs on Grafton St might be your best bet at try (01-6679678).

Thanks I'll contact Weirs and ask if they are able to do it.
It's really hard to believe that most places will insist on shipping it off to the manufacturer, I for one wouldn't like such a personal piece of property to be sent all over the world for a simple battery change. I had the battery changed in Australia a few years ago by someone who specialised in Casio, he did the water/pressure testing, replaced the seal AND found a replacement band for it. Now, I don't have to find a Casio specialist but surely someone in Dublin has similar equipment??? It's not the only water resistant watch out there!

But as you say your self, it's not just a simple battery change :) Most of the smaller shops that deal in quartz watches will want a quick turn around for battery changes while making the most profit from you, so it's easier just to add a caveat that they may no longer be waterproof.

I'm sure a few of the other high end shops may also be able to do it but I suggested Weirs and they sell the widest range of watches, from €€ to €€€€€€ so should be geared up a little better the lower end quartz watches.

Good point and well made! At the very least they may be able to suggest someone who would be able to handle it properly. I'm obviously prepared to pay a bit more to ensure a job well done :) Thanks!

Upstairs in Weirs there is a service desk, they can send the watch away for an official battery change - can be expensive and slow though!

There is another shop in stephens green - called fixit or something like that, it is opposite Hughes and Hughes. They will change the battery for you and tell you if they have been able to reseat the seal or not.

Did you get your battery replaced in the end?
