E92 or E46 330d

I'm looking at getting myself a 330d during the summer as like most companies our cars are going back for good, the "In the current climate" line :(

I've just brought in an A3 sportback for my wife from the UK (many thanks again to the lads in the import thread :D ), and I'll be planning to do the same with a car for myself.

So if I'm right the E46 was from 99-05, but I've seen a good few 06 E46 Coupes? Were these cars just not sold when the new model came out and registered in 2006?

Also the E90 was the new model, but I've been told "by a lad down the pub" ;) the coupe is actually an E92? Is that right?

So down to business, I'd be looking for an 05/06 msport if possible.
Which in your opinion would be the better car the E46/E92?
Anything to look out for on them and what milage would you expect/find acceptable for that year/model?

    I also checked up the CO2 figures, E46 is 218g/km (32%), E92 is 152g/km (20%VRT), though the VRT calculator is WAY off for both (177 & 160).

    E90 - Saloon
    E91 - Estate
    E92 - Coupé
    E93 - Convertible

The VRT calculator is probably giving you the emissions figures for the newer "efficient dynamics" cars. Also, be aware that for BMWs, Audis and Mercs the revenue will make enquiries to find out what options a car has added and charge VRT on them too. You will be charged VRT based on the emissions of the actual model and year of car you are importing.

The E46 coupés were still being sold for about a year (iirc) after the E90 was launched as the E92 coupé was not available yet.

The E90 saloon came out before the E92 Coupé - there was a period during which coupé buyers had to make do with the old model. The newer model is a far better car in all ways except looks, IMO.
