TOG: A Hackerspace for Dublin

Irish pubs are world renowned for there ability to lubricate and
facilitate a conversation, but they aren't particularly suitable places
for being creative and actually building something.

The solution to this problem is a Hackerspace. Basically a
Hackerspace is a physical place where people can meet and work together
    on projects.

All of us have had at least one little project we've wanted to work on,
but haven't had the place, time, knowledge, equipment or money to do it.
A Hackerspace and it's members provide a suitable place and resources
for these and various other projects to be worked on collaboratively.
Whether the project is technical, practical, artistic or a combination,
    everything is fair game.

Having talked about this for a while, seen and read about the successful
Hackerspaces around the world. I'm now working on building a
    Hackerspace for Dublin called TOG.

If your also interested in helping to build a Hackerspace in Dublin,
join me on Thursday the 29th of January at 7pm in the lobby bar of the
Alexandre Hotel on Fenian Street near the Merrion Square.

    Thanks.

    Robert Fitzsimons

went well. 15-20 folk turned up. some suggestions were put forward as to what the requirements should be for any location. some folk wanted phase 3 electricity others slightly less hard core wanted kitchen facilities etc. :-)

i think the current plan is to meet up 2 weeks after the first night and it might be in a different location.

all in all very interesting. some other groups were there.
    http://www.redspace.cc/ a musicians coop.
    folks from thehub

and a number of folks had tried the various outfits in germany and were enthusiastic to get something operational in ireland.

    3 phase electricity? WTF?

    Sounds like OCD city.

not really. just becuase i have a small hand drill does not mean that somebody else wants to use a heavy hammer action drill to make something. likewise somebody might have or want to use light industrial equipment to make something.

    peoples requirements are different.

it makes sense to have a list of all the things that we might want even if right now i can't think of a single reason as to when i would require 3 phase elecricity. :-)

the folks there were very cool and represented many different groups in terms of computer software/hardware interests as well as interest in woodwork and metalwork and various electronics. personally i've only started to dabble in soldering electronics so this might be a very interesting project to support if i can.

turn up to the next group and see if you can contribute.
