The 2009 Oscar Nominations (for 2008) announced

    Nominated for best picture are The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Frost/Nixon, Milk, The Reader and Slumdog Millionaire.

    Period love story Benjamin Button leads the Academy Awards with 13 nominations in total.

    Rags-to-riches love story Slumdog Millionaire was second with 10 nominations and Batman blockbuster The Dark Knight scored eight.

    Kate Winslet has been nominated for the best actress Oscar for her role in The Reader, while fellow Brit Danny Boyle has been shortlisted for best director for his film Slumdog Millionaire.

    Heath Ledger has received a posthumous Oscar nomination for his supporting actor performance in The Dark Knight, exactly one year after dying of a drug overdose in New York.

    Only real disappointment for me from those nominations come in the musical sections - No nomination for TDK's score (although I believe it may not be eligible for some reason?) ...but biggest ommision is in best song category for Springteens 'The Wrestler'....it should be the runaway winner for Gods sake!!

    Also, why only 3 nominations in that category?

    I should point out that New Boy is an irish short film. It won an IFTA last year and also won at Tribeca last time out.
