Supposed to be a great TV, if you can find two let me know, because I'm waiting on one since before Christmas.:( Apparently theres a new model coming out in April, so they are hard to come by.

If you have a newish sky dish, you can receive Freesat HD with the PZ81's.

the new models wont be announced to dealers until the end of feb at the european trade show. so it'll be a week or two after that when regular punters find out, and then it'll be april (at least) before some of the models are available, it will take until about july/august for the entire range to be available.

I got one a bit before Christmas and it's brilliant........ freesat a breeze to set up, connected up the dish and it did the rest, "rabbit's ears" aerial plugged in and it found the DTT trial with RTE1 & 2, TV3 and TG4, pretty good quality.

Picture performance is excellent, performance with BluRay and HD DVD superb, as are BBC HD and ITV HD, although the latter has very little regular programmes.

I don't know what models they have coming down the track, I got this from Richersounds and was very pleased at athe deal.

    Pixmania.ie seem to have a " E " version for €999 + €65 delivery

    http://www.pixmania.ie/ie/uk/1020372/art/panasonic/th-42pz81e-plasma-screen.html

I was looking at the 42px80 and 42pz80 and couldn't decide but are now very hard to find.
There's mixed reviews about pixmania. Haven't used them for a tv but did for a camera which I returned as not suitable and got full refund even paid courier too.
The tv's they do have have TNTHD, is that the french version of freesat or freeview and would it work in the midlands. They don't seem to have a 42pz80 which I had decided upon. Might go back to the px80.
Anyone know the difference between the 42px80e and 42px81fv ?
    Sorry for hijacking this thread.

Panasonics have a very poor rep with regard to their Saorview compatibility (and efforts to sort out same).

Have a look in the terrestrial forum.

Mine works with saorview. You had to have scanned the channels at the time RTE-nl were in their testing phase and had not changed the flag that prevented these sets from storing the channels. Then after they did, you had to make sure you didn't do a re-scan.

The sets have a hotel function which allowed the channel settings to be saved to an SD card and to be restored from same. Some people used this function to save the channels for their particular areas and posted the files. So if you have exactly the same model set, and someone has a file for your area, you should be able to put it on a card and use it to 'restore' the settings which would give you most of the Saorview channels.

Panasonic deserve to be knocked for the flag fiasco, but knocking them for not supporting Saorview is a bit unfair because it didn't exist and the specs weren't available when Panasonic made these sets and sold them for the UK market.

I bought mine knowing full well that it wasn't intended for the Irish market and that there was a risk that when the DTT specs were finally decided it might not work with them.

There is a bit of stuff about the hotel files here; http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?threadid=2056172411
