Guys. I have my bike almost ready to go I just have to finish installing the groupset and I'm not sure of the correct order of steps. I've almost put the groupset on the bike -- just need to put the ergo levers on but after that what is the best order ... does this make sense?
    1. Chain
    2. Cables
    3. Adjust Front Der.
    4. Adjust Rear Der.
    5. Brakes
    6. Pedals
    7. Set
    8. Bar Tape

Also do people think white bar tape, hoods and cables would be too flashy or should I just stick with black.

Sounds a sensible order really, though I'd put the derailleurs on before the chain (I think you have already though) :)

White tape if you have a white saddle -bars and saddle should match

I'd be inclined to leave the chain till after the derailleurs because it could end up getting in the way a bit. Apart from that, I'd say that the rest aren't too interdependant.

Yup, seems reasonable. I'll rebuilding one at the minute, and I just swap between different parts when I want. You can't really go wrong. You need the mechs on to do the chain, and you need the shifters on to do the cable. Adjust when doing the cable. Do the brakes then, they're easy. When happy, wrap the bars and done.

    7. Cycling shoes must contain at least 80% white!

Very nice bike you have there scott, be sure to post it in the Images of Beauty thread when you are done.

I'd go with white tape then. I've not seen white cables before, bit of an odd thing drawing attention to something you usually try and hide.

I'm so excited..... I'll update this thread with some before (when I pulled it out of a skip) and after.

blorg.... you make me feel unworthy ... I only have three bikes now and not a single speed amongst them...

I called around and I can't get campag white cables... I'm not trying to draw attention to them I'm trying to be anti-black and anti-carbon.

I think its time to call campag directly...

Is that a domestique I see lying on the couch? I suggest you give him a clip on the ear, get him to wash the dishes, sweep the floor and dispose of the refuse bag. Then hand him the list as you have outlined above.;)

    Sounds about right.

Campag don't make white cable housing. You'd have to go with a 3rd party manufacturer like Nokon or Jagwire.

My domestique, or domestic helper (aka wife), is resting during the off season. I'll try your advice and see the reaction.

Damn Scott that is one nice frame.

Mind me asking where you got it? I can't find a frame anywhere (internet), normally ebay is so good for odd things but I'm having trouble finding an old steel frame.

You make sure to mention it on here, and wait for someone to offer you one... or maybe that only works for me :)

Good on you, did you respray it?

Sweet, do I need to go to that special bike one? There is a recycling centre near me in Ballyogan but I have never seen any bikes there.

Yes and no ... I spent two weeks getting rid of the paint and spraying it and got to the stage where I was doing to top coat and kept touching little parts of the bike and that annoyed me as I would have to sand it back to get rid of the little marks etc. It was near perfect but not good enough so I decided to cut my losses and get it painted. So last Thursday I took the bike in a gave it to a guy who stripped all my paint off and repaitned it for me for 120 euro which although isn't cheap is was perfect and quick. I got it back Tuesday all done.

Painting at home, unless you have a proper spray painter is silly, as its gonna cost about 90 euros anyway. (Notromos 10, 3x Undercoat Tins 30, 3xChosen Color 30,2 x Clear Coat 10). not to mention my time.

Is saying all that, if I had a shed I would probably paint at home. I'd just get the required spray painter and compressor.

I just rang the tech department there and they said that it was possible to get white cables... I've emailed and well just wait and see. Exciting

I've never been on an old steel racer, not too sure, but I'm a 54cm on my two current bikes. Saddles always seem quite low on these older bikes.

Thanks Scott, I'll head up and have a look.

Sorry for hijacking your thread, everyone return to answering his question and drooling over the bike please! :)

Hahaha...I'm 54 too... so the chances of me find a conalgo and giving it away to you are slim to .......... (I'm sure you can complete that)

They are great to deal with. Jeff is the guys name and he'll do any color with a range of different finishes. I am very happy with them and will use them again. Mention that Scott sent ya.

P.S Strip your bike of everything you might want to replace especially the crown fork race if planning to change the headset.

Okay so -- campag itialian guy said they stopped doing them in 2007/8 and they don't have any old stock so I bow down gracefully and say I'm wrong again
