The scores in the Bob Hope Classic are a joke.

11 under leading. 113 players under par.

What kind of chicken run course is it.

Its a bit of a joke isnt it. Thats why i love The Open so much. A score of +1 could win it there. Thats real golf.

The course it would seem caters more for the Celebrity amatures that the tour pro up until sunday.

Just one of the many reasons why the European Tour now makes for far better viewing than the US tour.

In fairness Graeme, I think your doing the US Tour a bit of a disservice there. Look at the scores last week in Dubai, for example. Ok, the BH is a bit of stroll for the pro's in the US, but it's a 1 off. Next they go to TPC Scottsdale then Torrey Pines after those they have Pebble Beach, Riviera, PGA National Champion Course and not to mention Augusta.

Looking at the scores on those tournaments last year, there was 1 won with a score of -12 or greater and that was by Tiger, who blew the field away with a -19 (2nd was -11).

On the whole I think the standard of courses and golf has been far greater in the US, than it has been in Europe, although that might change this year with the Race to Dubai.

Well, each to their own i suppose, but i find the european tour to be enthralling pretty much every week of late. The US tour seems to grab my attentions maybe 4-5 times a year. Maybe that's a reflection of me and my tastes, or maybe it's the golf.

There's no denying the US pros play on some top quality course thru the year. Unfortunately i just find a lot of them to be repetitive. Different strokes and all that i suppose.

Would agree with that point very much.

I like the US tour but the courses just seem so alike I enjoy it but I think the european tour you have more variety in type of courses you play. I think the European tour is now better then the US

although I do bet in 60-70% of golf tournements each year must say I have much better luck in the US Tour then European, had Zach Johnson last week to get me off too good start this season (also had him in 2007 masters at 175/1 so I suppose that man is one my top players surprise surprise.. where I never seem to find winner in european tour must change my plans in those ones haha

Totally agree - you always have different people in contention in the Euro Tour and every course seems to look totally different from the course the week before - I don't think the same can be said for the US courses.

have to agree whole heartedly with you hobart but the european tour is definately on the right road and improving greatly.

but untill may you'd have to be almost an insomniac to see live coverage on the eur tour, malaysis, indonesia, aus, china, korea tough to watch all the golf when its on so early.......don't really like highlight show too much

The current stretch is perfect timewise - get up on a saturday and sunday, the golf comes on live. Over by lunchtime and you can get out and play. Once it hits European shores it's fine also in early/mid afternoons.

Better than this nonsense of sitting up til half one in the morning on a sunday night/monday morning and sleepwalking into work the next day (bar the three US majors).

Totally agree, while I might play 9 on a Friday eve in the height of summer, I always get out before 9am on golf days. Leaves the afternoon free for golf/soccer and a bit of r&r in the clubhouse.

the BH isnt supposed to be a "proper" tournament. Its designed to be a fun time for all of them, including the 3 amateurs per team. Naturally if its not going to be impossible for these amateurs its going to be pretty easy for the pros.

That said, you still have to hit the shots and hole the putts, if you have a bogey you are out of it for the week really...

On the subject of tours and coverage I prefer the bigger EU events as you get to see more shots. The US tour is 90% putting...I can get a mirror and watch putting all day if I want to, especially boring putting on perfect greens. I wanna see 3 irons from the fairway and flops over bunkers personally.
The EU tour is better at this, but still not great IMO.

    Very true.
The vast majority of the golf courses on the US tour are set up all wrong.
No rough, fairways you could land a jet on,and all the danger is miles from the fairway.
All the trees have the lower branches cut off and there is no scrub/briars at ground level, just nice pine cones.
How often do you see a pro lose a ball ?
The Hope tournament is interesting as they analyse amateurs swings and compare them to the Pro's in categories such as swing speed, ball speed, spin, launch angle, carry etc.
    Very interesting.
