    Morning,

I have searched many sites but have got conflicting reports back. Anyone advise what is the cheapest & fastest broadband available to homes in the Sandyford Dublin 18 area?

    Thank you

You would be better asking in the Broadband forum.

Cheapest and Fastest are mutually exclusive.

What speed do you really need? Note that the higher speeds on DSL bitstream actually perform poorer for interactive uses.

Magnet, Smart, Digiweb, UPC (ex NTL) can all provide high speed without eircom. With ordinary DSL you are paying line rental. If you have no phone line then DSL is not possible but then you may pay less overall.

    Some Broadband alternatives
DSL Bitstream: Phone line (everyone, but really eircom)
LLU DSL: Higher speed Phone line (Magnet, Smart, BT, Digiweb) to limited areas
Cable TV coax: You don't have to get their Cable TV anymore. (UPC=NTL/Chorus)
Metro: Cable Broadband performance via Line Of Sight Radio (Digiweb)
FWA/ Fixed Wireless: Other Fixed Wireless Broadband Solutions (Digiweb, Imagine/IBB and other smaller companies).
Fibre: Mostly Smart & Magnet, very very limited areas.

Solutions that are not fast nor really Broadband:
    Ripwave (IBB/Imagine)
    Clearwire
    EDGE/3G/HSDPA from "3", O2, Meteor or Vodaphone.

Only some or none of the above systems may be available at your house, even if available in the area.

There are some other very expensive solutions for the desperate that can't get Broadband such as Two Way Satellite and dedicated Microwave link.

UPC covers some areas in Sandyford, I think Smart and/or Magnet have enabled the exchange too. They're the ones to check out.
