    Hi Folks,

    I'm starting to go out of my mind and could really use some advice. i am researching places to book for our honeymoon which will hopefully be starting the first week in September and I have no idea where to go. You can find good and bad reports on the net for everything and this is no different. Here is what I have pieced together so far: (open to correction if I'm wrong)!

    Dubai: First week of Ramadan. Cant even hold hands without dirty looks and no dring.

    Egypt: Also Ramadan and resorts are Ant infested and full of scary Russian mafioso's

    Indian Ocean: Average rainfall for September is 271mm with rain on average 18days this month.

    Thailand: Rainy Season 300mm rainfall.

    Goa: As Thailand.

    Malaysia: As above

    Carribean
    : Middle of the Hurricane season.

    Can anybody please give me some advice? Please? i had also looked at some places in Europe but we could not afford to stay in any of the places of the same quality. (although maybe I just dont know where to look).
    I work nights so please excuse me if I don't get back right away. .. but please help!

    Hi,

    Forgot to add that 4000euro is well and truly the top of the spend. We would love to get this done for under 3000 including all taxes if humanly possible.

    Thanks again

    Has anyone any helpful tips on this one as I am very VERY stuck.

    Just go to Dubai, it (almost) never rains there. You can hold hands there and drinks flow freely in the hotels. A crap destination for a honey moon (I know, we went ;) ). Alternatively, just go to the Maldives, so bloody hot that a bit of rain would be welcome.

    But seriously, it's your honeymoon, you should spend most of it indoors...

    I was in Dubai for Ramadan and as long as you're in the main hotels you'll
    hardly notice - it was only on Eid al-Fitr at the end of Ramadan where
    they were strict and alcohol was not available in bars. I wouldn't let
    Ramadan interfere with planning a holiday there, it's probably the most
    westernised part of the Middle East.

    Maldives/Indian Ocean: I was there last year for part of their monsoon.
    Yes there are times when it'll pour rain but after a few hours it'll clear.
    If you're diving/snorkelling it makes no difference. It's unlikely to rain
    all day every day and as mentioned it's a break from the heat.

    Well I lived in Mexico for 2 years, absolutely fantastic place, great for honeymoons and dirt cheap once you are there. They have hurrican season too but it's more or less isolated to the Carribean coast, if you are further south shouldn't be any problems. Huatulco on the Pacific coast is beautiful.

    rainy season can just be a downpour for an hour or so and then clear skies.

    Not like here were it rains all day

    from what I understand, hurricanes tend to start off in the south of the caribbean and build up as they travel north, so the further south you go, the less chance there is of a hurricane. Tobago for example hasn't been hit by a hurricane in years. It is a very nice island and the locals are great. It is completely different to its larger sister island of trinidad. its a bit basic, but there are some lovely lagoons, beaches and the rainforest there is amazing.

    BA and Virgin both fly there from Gatwick.

    There's an old hurricane mnemonic that is useful

    “June, too soon;
    July, stand by;
    August, it must;
    September, remember;
    October, all over.”

    Hurricanes originate off the coast of Africa (around the Cape Verde's) and build as they track across the Atlantic.

    The 2008 track history can be seen here (big image). It's always fun watching them from the safety of Ireland on the NOAA website. I'd think long and hard about going to the Caribbean at that time of the year.

    Also Trinidad & Tobago are fairly poor countries, so that may well put a downer on a romantic honeymoon?

    Thanks for the replies people. It seems I may have been misinformed about Ramadan in Dubai. It's hard to know which websites to believe and which not to!

    As far as Mexico or the Caribbean is concerned I don't think I have the nerve to take the chance on them at this time of year. I do agree they look like fantastic places though.

    Thanks again for the replies, will do some more digging.

    I have been in Dubai for start of Ramadam and we didnt encounter any problems at all there .. mind you the ground handler for the tour operator did go a tad OTT about all the things because of that, but we didnt have any problems or that, we did a Bedwan nite and that and the only different thing on that was that they didnt have the Belly Dancer because of Ramadam but every thing else was as normal

    also been to Mauritius in Sept, the temp was in the high 20's touching the 30's when we were leaving there, and we did have a few down pours but other than that it was fine and there was a nice sea breeze!

    Dubai was hitting the 40 mark with almost 100% humidity so deffo no chance of rain there!! :)

    Vegas......... Nice and hot, should be mid 30's, it's a dessert so shouldn't rain, really nice hotels really cheap, more shows than you can shake a stick at and a chance to double any cash gifts you get from the wedding...

    Went on my honeymoon in 2005 and been back twice since, also went to mexaco as part of honeymoon and got hit with a ' tropical storm' , turned into a hurrican after it passed us and ended up killing a few hundred, all in late sept early oct.....

    PM me and I will give you links to cheap/discounted hotels

    best of luck with the wedding...

    I don't know what it is with people and far away islands in far away lands with dodgy weather whenever it's good value to go there. There's a reason it's good value at certain times of year you know.

    I reckon you could get an excellent hotel in Madrid for the money you are talking about. If you are looking for a different type of hotel check out the Paradores - http://www.paradores.es. You won't run the risk of huge downpours, the flights will be good value and short, and the city itself is very nice, enjoyable and easy going. It sure beats Bruges in September or the Maldives in the rainy season . . .

    If you did want the Caribbean then you could look at Aruba. It's below the hurricane belt and doesn't get affected.

    Camel rides :p

    (Madrid is nice for a weekend but that's it)

    Dubai is a real experience (for better or worse)

    I hope Mrs Dyflin has other memories of her honeymoon than sitting astri . . . no, let's not got there :P

    Yea i agree. A few days in the Masai Mara seems to be quite common for new weds. Theres various levels of accomodation, some of which is extremely luxurious. You tend to forget your in a tent.. its more like a cabin.
    check it out!

    Dohda, Don’t rule out Egypt. Ramadan will be irrelevant if you are staying in a luxury hotel. Sharm el Sheikh is very good value –top luxury all inclusive 5 star hotels. No, I didn’t see any ants but there were lots of Russians….. Panorama Holidays had good deals last month. Sunway also do combination packages where you could combine Cairo / Nile with the Red Sea. Weather should be in the thirties and there is no humidity. BTW check the Ramadan dates -they vary from country to country depending on whether the moon has been sighted or not………
