Is it possible to still apply to join AGS if you have been previously convicted of a drink driving offence many years previously, or does a conviction like that completely rule you out ?

The guys in the Garda Recruitment forum will probably be able to answer this question better.

It doesnt automatically rule you out afaik but you would want to have a good excuse when it comes to interview stage and meetings with your local super. Best thing is to apply, take each stage as it comes and be able to explain that you were young and silly etc.. For application requirements go to www.garda.ie and go into careers. Alternatively everything you need to know is on this forum somewhere so read through past posts for all the info you need. Good luck :)

So long as the conviction wasnt recent there should be no problem. The only thing I will tell you is not to try and hide it either when applying or at the interview stage. Be prepared to talk about it.
