Suggestions for Second Hand Car

Hello Motor Forum Regulars,

I have been informed that you are a very helpful bunch and that you don't bite people who don't really know anything about cars.

I have a 95 306 Peugeot which has now tipped the balance of costing more to look after than it's actually worth.

So I am looking for a something similar to my Peugeut, younger than 2000, good for driving around a city, but that will also stand long journeys across the country. Good value regarding petrol usage and it has to have a back seat and decent sized boot.

And, perhaps most importantly, I don't want to pay more than €3k.

What I am looking for is suggestions of makes of cars that I should be looking for, possible years and maybe and idea of how much (in an ideal world) that particular car/year combo would cost.

Also any ideas of where (websites/dealers etc) to start looking would be extremely helpful.

Asuming the mileage is correct (FULL NISSAN SERVICE HISTORY is mentioned!) and you got 1 or 2 hundred off the listed price thats good metal for the money. My 95 has nearly 100,000 more than that one! SO if shes been cared for go for it!

This model has all the extras like electric windows , remote central locking, airbag that my P10 lacks

Have a look at Carisma's too, if you want something reliable and cheap.

If you were looking for something similar to the 306 (size etc) I'd be looking at Focus' or Astra's. Plenty out there so cheap. I'd imagine you'd get a '01 for that kinda money. maybe '02.
Stay away from the 307, 306 was a better car.
Honda Civic is another option.

Tony, thanks for the suggestions. But I think I'd be looking for more of a hatchback type, as I admit I'm not the best at parking longer cars being used a short little thing.

Go for a Civic, Colt or Focus then.

All are generally very reliable and you should be able to pick up a nice clean one for around 2000e.

Civic would be my choice.

A 02 or 03 focus 1.4 hatch for 3k ???? Not a hope !

If you can find proper 03 focus at that price I'll take five of them.

That 01 is good value at 3900 if it checks out ok. Let's get real here ... the market is soft but not that soft, and clean cars in OP's budget are still desirable.

A ford fiesta? the 5 door version is still a relatively small car so it'd be easy enough for you to park. I'm sure you could easily pick up a decent 00/02 for 3k or less
