Apologies if this is really obviously solved (I'm a linux noob).
When I go to play a DVD in Movie Player it says "cannot locate stream" and then plays the DVD without menus and mixed up audio and video.
    What is wrong?
(I'm using Ubuntu 8.10 and have a HP Pavilion dv6000)

Hi, I'd recommend you follow the multimedia guide here, which should sort out it for you.

DVDs work perfectly for me after installing the list of plugins provided.

alternatively you could install vlc media player which can play pretty much ever media format around. I think you can install it from the add/remove option in the applications menu

    sudo apt-get install VLC.

It's one of the best there is for Linux. I tried running CCCP in Wine, just to see. VLC is better, though it was interesting to try.
