Missed, it. Was it any use? I presume it will be repeated again. i'll have to keep an eye on the listings for it. Generation Kill starting this weekend on Fox as well is bringing it back as one of the better stations available

Do you mean 'repeated' ? They made 7 episodes, and I had not heard or read of more.

After the somewhat dry month of December, January featured a number of returning shows aswell as a slew of new and quite diverse shows. Just after watching the first episode of Lie to Me which stars the truely talented and undererated Tim Roth as a House like character who specialises in being able to identify deciption and uses his ability to help various law enforcement agencies.

I have to admit that I did enjoy it and Roth was absolutly fantastic. The plot felt a bit rehashed as we've seen the various scenarios depicted numerous times before but the shows writing and perormances save it. Life last years superb Life the show hints at a deeper darker plot which I'm sure will be elaborated upon in future epiosodes. For now it's relatively easy going fare which most will enjoy. Now I'm off to watch episode 2.

Ah, here's another one I've been meaning to watch :). Darko, do you think Tim Roth's performance can carry the show, kind of like how Simon Baker carries the Mentalist? Like I've mentioned in other threads, crime dramas typically bore me and I can't get into them much (I like my shows to have a larger "mythology"/plot to them) but I've always liked Roth's performances and after the surprise of the Mentalist, this one might be worth a look too...

I think his performance can easily carry the show but I do think that the show could stand on it's own merits. It's not the traditional procedural show and unlike trash such as the CSI series it does'nt rely on flashy editing and cheap tricks.

Watching the second episode atm and it's more of the same but remains highly watchable. I have a feeling though that no matter how good Roth is the show could be one of those that just falls by the way side, you miss one or two episodes and just can't be bothered with catching up on.

Cool, have to check it out then... It might succeed though because of the crime drama format, which seems hugely popular in the US, regardless if they're any good or not (and yes, I'm thinking of the never ending CSI spinoffs and I'm not too fond of the Law & Order series either...). I don't think the Mentalist would be anywhere near as popular as it is if it wasn't "masquerading" as yet another procedural and this show seems like it may find the same success in much the same way...

Things are getting crowded on the networks though, there's a whole slew of other shows starting between now and the end of February (though I'm mostly looking forward to Dollhouse and Kings).

I've been stockpiling this since it started, and I watched the first one over the weekend. Needless to say, I've watched the other 6 since. Truly an excellent show. Tim Roth is great, but he doesn't need to carry the show on his own - the other regulars are very good.

I think its up there with The Mentalist as one of the best new shows of the season.

    Anyone still watching?

I've been watching this since the start, usually on the day it airs which is always a fair sign that its a show I like.

It has all the elements you might expect in the cop show, but its different.

Roth is good, as are all the cast in fact.

If ya haven't seen it, you could do worse than to give it a try.

Caught up with the last few epsiodes over the week and the show has gone from strength to strength. It really is fantastic television and of all the new shows it's just behind The Mentalist and Leverage.

I've seen plenty of ads on Sky but I'm not sure exactly when it's starting. Looks pretty good though.

It starts tomorrow night on Sky One, so check it out.
The season finale is on tonight in the States.

It was just announced that it has been renewed for a second season, with Shawn Ryan coming on as an executive producer.

Lie to Me is coming back for another season.

The network has renewed the freshman drama for a 13-episode second season.

Shawn Ryan, the genius producer-writer behind The Shield and The Unit, is taking over as showrunner.

It's a fantastic show and well worth your time Basquille. Granted the initial impression is of yet another procedural drama but the characters and writing really impress. Roth is tremendous but as I said before he does'nt over shadow the rest of the cast who all hold their own.

Really glad to see a second season, I was beginning to lose all hope after Life was cancelled yet CSI and NCIS still continue.

Seen ads for this on TV and, loving Tim Roth as an actor, it piqued my attention.

I'm currently up to date on The Mentalist, this show looks like it's in a very similar vein. Is it? In what way are the 2 shows different?

Yep, it definitely has similarities. Where as Patrick Jane works for the police, Cal Lightman works for a company thats called in by the police to assist on cases. Cal is likeable (not as much as Patrick), but there are situations where he can lose the rag a bit.

Similar kind of show structure (standalone episodes, with a thin wisp of story arc running through it).

I really like it, but my brother thought it was a bit cheesy (his words). See what you think.

Rest of the series continues next Thurs at 10pm

Life got cancelled? :( I was just starting to get into it! Lie To Me is pretty decent though.

Just watched the first two episodes there yesterday and thought it was surprisingly good.

To be honest I had been wondering how they'd keep it fresh if it was just going to be this guy wandering into an interview room and asking questions until he'd gotten all the information similar to the opening sequence of episode 1, which lets face it would get old really quick, luckily though its been tempered with the whole 'its not if they're lying but why they're lying thats important'.

I'd happily recommend it to anyone who hasn't watched it yet.

Love it, have the sky plus set for this one. Am now officially crushing on Tim Roth!

i have to say i normally don't watch cop shows, i generally find them too easy to figure out and never really like the characters.

I only got into this due to tim roth being in it. Having said that i think its top class tv. My only hang up would be the natural lie detector young one, just dunno why but she bothers me.

    This show is amazing

Wait. Stop. Zoom in on the first "a" in amazing. Now zoom into the upper quadrant. Thats peculiar... the style of "a" suggests that he was nervous while writing it. Why would he be nervous if he wasn't lying. Now zoom in on the second "a". Ahh, you can see the consistency of the lie. What is he trying to cover up. That devious bastard. It was him all along. He killed and raped that women.

I felt the whole thing was flat and stale. Every instance of human emotion doesn't need to be explained to the viewer. It just seemed condescending to me. I didn't enjoy it at all

I did however see another thread here last night about "breaking bad" and checked it out. Amazing

there supposed to be scientist right, not jump to conclusions, in the second ep, they kept ending sections with him saying she's lying! , shes not lying!, shes lying!, maybe thats drama for the ad breaks i don't know.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,780 ✭✭✭JohnK

    spoiler for episode 2
    @lostexpectation:
But... she was lying in parts... that was the whole thing about the second episode, the woman at the start who said she was raped was never raped by the sargent but she was repeating someone elses story.

Lie to Me showrunner Shawn Ryan is leaving the series.
Ryan, 43, is exiting the Fox crime drama to focus on other projects, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Ryan joined Lie to Me as the series' new showrunner at the beginning of its sophomore season. The drama, starring Tim Roth, attracted just 6.63 million viewers for its last new episode in December.
Lie to Me's remaining 12 episodes will air on Fox beginning on June 7.

    http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2010/09/01/exclusive-mekhi-phifer-exits-lie-to-me/
The Lightman Group is severing ties with the FBI in season 3, which means Mekhi Phifer (a.k.a. Special Agent Ben Reynolds) is out of a job.
“We’re going rogue a little bit,” explains Lie to Me executive producer David Graziano. “Lightman [Tim Roth] is going to act slightly in the more old-school PI model of a TV protagonist, [so] we’re doing away with the FBI contract [and] Mekhi is unfortunately no longer going to be on the show.
“The FBI franchise limited our storytelling a little bit because it had to adhere to the FBI structures of ‘Would the FBI take this case or not?’” Graziano continues. “The character that’s going to be our badge this season is a bent cop, Wolowsky [The Unusuals' Monique Gabriela Curnen], who goes about business in a similar way to Lightman. There’s a mutual respect from the get-go. We’re working hard to make The Lightman Group a dysfunctional family.”
