Just got an automatic renewal notice from the AA for €235 (€139 roadside, €48 home start, €48 additional mem). Its about €100 more than I paid last year. Would anyone know what their prices were in 08 and in 07?

And has anyone succeeded in getting a reasonable price on their renewal?

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Was last year your first membership year or did you get a special offer?

Once you're a member they seem to sneakily increase the fee by the guts of 10% per year. I don't have an additional member and the sum of the other two charges is similar enough to what I just paid in renewal iirc

the AA normally give you the home start etc for free when you join, but now you are paying the full price. I have heard (dunno if true) that if you dont renew and wait for the special offer to roll around again you can sign up again at the discount price.

I have standard package plus HomeStart & while they are quick to come out (I haven't been stuck in any remote areas) & service is good I do think it is too expensive & when replace old car will quit as can probably get similar service included with insurance. They really should have an annual discount for members who don't call them out very often, maybe like insurance NCB.

    Update:
With one phone call they gave me free homestart and a free 2nd member, dropping the renewal price to €187, saving €48.

Go into Dunnes and get the AA gift pack, then register it via your wife/partner/family etc and use a separate address - it cost €66 for this gift pack and by using my wife's name this year (back to me next year and vice versa after) a non home address of a friend etc I get a half price renewal and free home start. Only extra will be the extra member (but you can blag this as long as you are at the car when it is fixed) and maybe the extended cover that puts you up over night etc.

All is all I get AA for €66. Not bad...
