I went to Puerto Rico in Gran Canaria last August and my parents go about 3 times per year and even wanna retire to the area. It's a great place, lots to do, the beach itself I wasn't a huge fan of but Playa de los Amadores is a 15-20 minute walk along the cliffs, really pretty, lovely view and that's a much nicer, bigger, cleaner beach with more facilities, toilets, showers etc, also full of bars and restaurants that open quite late. I can't advise on a specific hotel, we stayed in apartments which were nice, my main piece of advice would be to make sure whatever hotel you do pick is NOT at the top of the hill, lots of them are high up and it would kill you walking up all those stairs in the heat, so that's one to ask the travel agent

For Puerto Rico the Gloria Palace Amadores is probably best location and standatd wise. There is also the Marina Suites for high standard apartments option.

for Lanzarote - The Princess Yaiza is probably on of the best on the island though Playa blance may be a little quiet in Feb. The hotels in Puerto Del Carmen are a little dated but location wise the Fariones Hotel are the best. Good standard apartments in Puerto Del Carmen would be the Fariones Playa & the El Dorado apartments.

Yep I second the above, the Gloria Palace Amadores is super, only ever heard great reports about it, though is a bit pricier than others but you get what you pay for of course!

Best Holiday ever (well for what you decribe below :) )was the Gran Hotel Melonares in Gran Canaria- have also been to the Gloria Palace as mentioned below & I prefered the Gran Hotel. There website is here. The OH brought me for my birthday last year as a surprise- we flew with Direct Hols and had no problems.
I wrote a review of the hotel here and reviews of restaurants & area here
