    HI,

I've been playing Fifa 09 since it's release date and although i'm not the worst player, i'm not the best either, any time i play anyone with a decent ranking i find impossible to tackle them going down the wings or stopping them turning my last defender with out slicing them down and getting sent off. Also find it very hard to control the ball, i'm guessing i'm using the right buttons as i have won a few games and got into the rankings myself at one stage, but it just seems that some people seem to have much better control of the ball, any one got any tips?

    Ta,

well for defending i find if you jockey the players instead of charging after them is much better this is the L2 button on PS3 if you master this you should be able to handle anyone running at you.. as for control over the ball try keep your finger off the sprint button (R2 onPS3) when running and you'll have more time to control yourself when turning etc (also hold L2 when you are turning and it does nice neat little sharp moves)..

I play differently depending on the other player. But at the start of every game I press left twice till is full defense or whatever its called. I play from the back and just pass across field until there's space and then move forward. If you play defensively and against an attacking team you will always find gaps and on the counter it should be fairly easy to 1 2 up the field.

Also you don't always have to use the run button. If you run its easy for people to judge where to intercept the ball. If you are around the box try just walking around the players. They will usually run and tackle which is easy to dodge when you got the ball and not running. If you practice this you will find you will be much better at controlling the ball. Lots of passing works against people that like to have a lot of possession of the ball. Seems to annoy them passing and playing one touch football and then when they finnaly get the ball they mess up with frustration.

When defending dont run at them. Keep switching to nearest player and try and force them to go to the wings and close them off. Crossing seems to be the least amount of goals. Your defenders get to the ball first 90% of the time.
