Ok, so apart from the usual suspects, are there any hidden gems that have not been un-earthed by many?I was initially a fan of that 'No Disko' @ The Academy on a Friday when it started out, but over the last few months it's gradually gone downhill, more electro b*llocks and less and less proper tunes :( Is downstairs in The Oak on a Saturday night still good craic??

I could well be the wrong person suggesting here as I only ever read this forum to try and find out what the hell Alt/indie could possibly mean. I'm still none the wiser but i do know bars and the music in them. Have you tried Sin e on the quays? It's where I frequent for the music, crowd and reasonable enough prices (you can even dance on the tables and the bouncers don't mind too much the whiff of waggawagga smoke). Is it Alt/Indie? I don't know but it's not your standard typical fare of music policy. My friends DJ there and they think it could be but are a little lost on the Alt/Indie thingy too.

Alt/Indie is just a trend for the cool kids.

Sin É is a deadly auld pub though, and €3 pints of Guinness ftw!

The club below the Globe bar on South Great George's Street is cool. It's called RíRá and entrance is free of charge if you get in before 11.30pm. The last time I was there Joy Division, The Smiths, The Cure, Kasabian, The Doors, Franz Ferdinand and M.I.A. all featured on teh playlist. It's a nice place. You can go casual or dressy, and the dancefloor isn't usually ridiculously crowded. On that note, the Globe is a very nice pub + warm. And there's live jazz of a Sunday ^_^

Unlike punk, which is so uncool its cool right?

I think that the Jazz on Sunday in the Globe has been knocked on the head. You've gotta head to 4Dame lane now for the intake of Sunday jazz. 20piece swing band doing all sorts and fabulous dancers to boot. Now that's what I call Alt/Indie Sunday.

But true RiRa/Globe has good music. Anseo does the tunes too (oddly enough on the punk theme they were playing Peter and the Test Tube Babies - Band from the pubs the last time I was there). Foggy Dew's always worth a pop in too. Live Ska on a Sunday.

Is that not on a Saturday night? Last time I was there it was just electro, didn't recognise one song all night

Well what are you asking me for? I'm not a punk.
Maybe you should come to a punk gig some day and try to figure out the answer to the question asked yourself.

Buh. At this stage i'm really guessing I should write a disclaimer in my sig.

Possibly something along the lines of: "Every post is to be taken with much more than a grain of salt, maybe even a full vat."

Or maybe i could just throw in a few more well timed :P's.

There's always Antics in Crawdaddy on Wednesday nights. €5 in €3 pints and €2 vkice.

Music is decent, mgmt, mia, the cure, kasabian, vampire weekend etc.

Quite a young crowd though that tends more towards scenester than alt/indie.
Generally a live act before midnight too.
    Whopper dancefloors and smoking area.

Directly (well, almost directly) opposite a taxi rank too.
