Citroen C1 - what do you think?

Was thinking of purchasing a Citroen C1. What do you think? I live in the country side. I do about 50/60km a day for work. I like the price and the economy of this car but am worried about driving it out of a city.

Does anyone have any stories on them?

    Thanks

Burn to death or freeze to death . Short journeys only. A little extra gets a lot more car.

Also look at the Pug 107 or Toyota Aygo which are identical cars. The Toyota looks the nicest of the lot though. Haven't driven one but I'd imagine with a decent enough commute buy something slightly more comfortable, i.e bigger. Whats your budget/wants etc and people will be able to give you a few suggestions;)

    My budget is about 4,200-4,500.

Am looking for a small car. It says on the ad for C1's that it is suitable for out of city driving too!

spend a little more and get a diesel, we have a diesel C3 for last 6 years, never had a problem and does between 55mpg and 84mpg. Very comfy and solid on the road and cheap to tax service and insure (08 models), ours has done nearly 100k miles and is still on original brakes.

Have to agree with that. C3 is the best kept secret in the small car world. Much better car than the C1

Am only looking to spend 4-5 on a car! C3 is way over budget.

    Or with same diesel engine:

Remember the price they are advertised for is not the price you actually pay...

If it was me. No reason other than I like them.

OP, to answer your question - they're a great little car.

I started out in one - a 5dr SX model. At the time i was in college in Waterford, and was living in Wexford, so i was doing a fair bit of driving.

When i left college, i was working in dublin, so i was driving up and down to wexford every weekend. They're a great car on fuel - a full tank would get me 600-700kms +.

They are also a nippy little car, even though they are a 1.0, they have 75bhp, in a car that weighs the same as a shopping trolley. I had it, well lets say well above the speed limit at one stage.... And it even bet a 2.0 Non turbo Mr2 at the lights (well for a while anyway)

So, yes they are a good car, decent spec, great fuel economy, and can be driven on a motorway with little or no problems.

If you want one, go ahead and get it!

Forgot about those. Would be a very good choice. Ignore what people say about Fiat quality. These days they are as good as anything else out there and the Panda proves it

I had one as a rental for about 2 weeks.
Didn't care for it much. In the city it was grand, but on longer roads it wasn't the most comfortable. It rattled, it was blown about from the wind, and it had no power.
It is also ridiculously small - you can't use the boot and back seat at the same time.
    Fuel economy was good though.
I also had a C3 as a rental and it's a huge improvement. Looks a bit weird though, don't think I would buy one myself.

    Thanks for the replies.
    They are so varying!

I drive back roads to work - not the worst back roads but I love the size (I have no kids or anything) and the "eco warrior" thing is important to me. I dont want to be driving around in a big car for only one person!

    I second the Fiat Panda.
If anything were to happen my car, and I had to buy something on a budget, it's what I would go for. I think they are a decent looking car as well. For the money, you can't go wrong!

Ok, there's small and there's small. I don't think you realise just what size it is until you have a look.
If you plan on doing a large shopping in the supermarket, or even if you have to transport anything larger than usual you might have trouble. You'd probably even have difficulty getting a labrador in the back.

My mother now has the car i spoke about earlier.

She does the weekly shopping for 3 big fellas and herself, and gets it into that car no problem.

We also have a boxer dog, who sits happily in the back seat. You obviously wouldnt get her in the boot, but i wouldnt chance getting her into the boot of a C3 either.

Citreon C1 = Toyoata Avgo ....so toyota reliability and design for Citreon money.
Modern car with high safety rating better than (older design) C3
Also great car on the open road, same engine as 1 ltr yaris but much nippier due to lower weight
Most economical petrol car on sale
if you can get one in your budget you won't do better. Most people here slagging them have'nt driven one.
    Good luck

The opposite applies as they are made in the same factory so

Toyota Aygo = Citroen C1.... The reliability of a Toyota in a Citroen for Citroen money.

Have driven a C1 for a week, was pleasantly surprised for what it is.

    Thanks for the replies.

Am perfectly fine with the size of it. It is only me to transport (unless my partner or some friends are getting a lift).

The thing I am worried about is performance out of the town/city. I have been looking for some reviews about this but cant find any.
