Does anyone know what the in-flight entertainment is like between the different airlines flying Dublin-NYC direct?

Do any of them offer seat-back IFEs?

    Most would, some don't.

If you have your own screen, you'll have a selection of things to watch, from tv/movies etc. You just pick whatever you want. There will usually be a good selection of recent releases, grouped by genre.

If you don't have your own screen, they'll just place a few movies and you'll have to lump it.

There are two types of seat back systems. I flew to the West Coast this year and on the way out we had seat back screens which operated like the old big screen - a new movie started at a set time. On the way back we had a 'on-demand' system - there was a bigger selection and you could pause if you wanted to get up and walk about. As far as I know it's pot luck what plane you get because they move the aircraft around different routes.

Would say its the other way round.. most dont, some do..

Continental and AA dont have seat back screens. Not sure about delta. Aer Lingus have it on some of their planes.. Think somebody mentioned before the first flight to NY usually has it but the second flight doesnt (But it could be neither of them depending on what plane they use on the day)

I've never had it on any trips to the States with Aer Lingus, but I can't remember what time of day we flew.

This uncertainty around seat-back in-flight entertainment is disappointing. I didn't know there was such a thing as seat-back IFE that isn't on-demand. I'm probably flying with Delta so if anyone has any experience it would be welcomed.

We didn't have it on our flight to Thailand, which was most disappointing - especially as the communal screen was in an awkward viewing position for us. It was with China Airlines though, so the fact we survived at all is probably a bonus!

Haven't flown NY with Delta, but flew Atlanta/Shannon with them in September. The plane (a 757) had full on-demand IFE, but Delta were making quite a big deal of the fact that it had, which would suggest that they don't have it on all their routes.

Flew Shannon to Chicago with Aer Lingus last summer as well, and we had full IFE there too, although as far as I know, only 2 of their 9 transatlantic planes have it at the moment, so I guess we were quite lucky. If you're flying later in the year you might have a better chance because Aer Lingus have just got a new plane and are in the process of updating some of their old ones with seat back screens at the moment.

That number is rising a little now, one aircraft is currently being updated with PTV's and another factory fresh A330 (EI-EAV)is headed AerLingus way in the next few weeks, which I think will bring the ptv fitted number to 5 out of the total EI longhaul fleet of nine.-DUO,-EAV,-ORD,-DAA,-DUZ

All Continental 757's which are used on DUN/SNN-Newark are all fitted with AVOD(audio and video on demand) PTV's

Delta longhaul is largely missing PTV's at present on the 767's

On demand seat back IFE (AVOD) means that you choose when a film/show starts instead of waiting for a loop of shows to come back around.
