    Hi,

I have imported modern cars and taken them to the VRT office, but with classic cars over 30 years old, is it possible to just post all the paperwork and the €50 reg fee to the VRT office or will they insist on seeing the car??

Reason being, is I don't want to have to drive an old classic car in this weather over 80 miles round trip to get it registered...

Most of them dont ask to see the car, they didnt want to see mine when i registered it, your best bet is to ring your local VRT office first.

Any harm in asking what you purchased.

Officially they MUST come out to physically check the chassis number and engine number in person, to confirm that it is indeed the car for which you have the documentation. Ireland being Ireland, it seems that depending on what staff member you encounter, whether it rains or not, or for some other unexplainable reason, they don;t always come out to do this.

In all the years that I have imported and registered classic cars, they have ALL come out to inspect the car, bar one occasion. I presume when you ring them, they are obliged to tell you that they must see the car.

If you're worried about the driving the car, rent or borrow a trailer, should only be about 30 or 40 quid I'd say...

it would have to be road worthy, it's just the heaters on classic cars are not up to keeping me snug in this cold weather ;)...

In Cork they would do it for you without seeing the car almost certainly.I would go in person and takwe the doicuments. I re-registered one that was still in the UK at the time!

went to the Sligo VRT office without the classic car, just the completed forms, gave them the V5 and the €50 and they did it there and then without even asking if I had the car with me... :)
